jjtt Posted January 26 #1 Share Posted January 26 Hi all. We will be cruising to Nassau Bahamas this summer and want to know if anyone has had issues bringing a jar of honey back to the US through customs?
smokeybandit Posted January 26 #2 Share Posted January 26 You won't have any issues.
Rare 1025cruise Posted January 26 #3 Share Posted January 26 As long as the jar is factory sealed, it shouldn't be an issue.

time4u2go Posted January 28 #5 Share Posted January 28 Just be sure you don't carry it in your carry-on bags if you are flying after the cruise.
jjtt Posted January 28 Author #6 Share Posted January 28 Time4u2go, thanks for that suggestion, but we are driving to the port. We are not flying for this cruise.

Scottee25 Posted January 28 #8 Share Posted January 28 Just make sure you declare it.
Rare VernRDH Posted January 28 #9 Share Posted January 28 We brought it back with no problem, we also drove to the port. In the new shopping area at the terminal in Nassau is a local beekeeper shop. Nice young man, told us about the family business of beekeeping and selling honey and other products. We purchased it as gifts and all said it was very good. Even back when you had to fill out declaration forms, they wouldn't bat an eye at "honey" unless you were bringing back hundreds of dollars worth. It's still considered food and must be declared. Failure to declare it can be met with fines and confiscation. I get that they won't bat an eye at it. But you are still required to declare any food you are bringing into the US.

But the fact they don't hand out declaration cards anymore at cruise ports tells you the actual application of the law vs. what it is on paper. jjtt Posted January 28 Author #13 Share Posted January 28 Glad you asked STEFAN B. - We enjoy our honey and have tried many types from many places, but this shop found at the port in Nassau called "Da Bee Hive" tasted different than all others. Very good! We don't usually partake in "free samples" at open air markets, instead we bought a small sample jar to try at home. Now looking to buy more on our next cruise to Bermuda! ARandomTraveler Posted January 29 #15 Share Posted January 29 I doubt you'll have any issue. I brought honey back from Japan a few months ago with no issue. I brought it back on a plane.

And yes he goes through a jar a week lol.
