Am considering one on the forward section which is not connected to it's next-door-neighbor, in the forward section. Anyone have any first-hand experience? Signed, Love me quiet 🙂

  • Host Hattie changed the title to Tips for choosing cabin on QM2 12th deck.

Welcome to the Cunard Boards.

We prefer one a bit further back near the Pavilion Pool. It's one without a connecting door and we didn't hear any noise from neighbouring cabins over the fourteen days. We don't choose the location to avoid any movement near the bow, we'd be perfectly happy with that. It's to be near the pool and staircase B. We only use staircase A to visit the gym, at most once per day. Our other six trips per day are on staircase B.

The only sound from neighbours was when on balcony at same time as them and hearing them talking. If you are likely to use the Commodore Club, library and theatres, staircase A might be useful.

Thanks. Follow-up: may I ask if you were on port side or starboard side? Would you recommend one side over the other? The cruise I am considering has many 'at sea' days and, since I will be so high-up, am not worried about noise from the port. One more quick question: what occupies the end of each hallway on deck 12, aft?

We were starboard for Southampton-New York and return. That meant we had a view over the Statue and Manhattan from when the ship turns and when berthed at Red Hook. Some folk prefer port because they'll get first sight of Statue on arrival (if you are sailing to New York).

At aft of starboard hallway there is a heavy door that opens beside the Pavilion Pool Bar. It wasn't used very often when we were on. It's as easy for most to exit the hallway to the stair/lift B foyer and access the pool area from there. I didn't pay attention but imagine there is a similar door on the port side. There is often a band playing at Pavilion Pool around 3pm. We were quite happy for the music to waft towards the cabin, but we're not used to living in a silent location.

Depending on the route port or starboard could make a difference to how much light/sun you get on the balcony. We only use the balcony for a washing line for our gym/swim gear so aren't really bothered.

Thanks for your information. Do you recall what is at the end of the forward hallways? I see elevators and stairwells but not much else; am looking for quiet and am hoping these are not  drinks/eatery areas.

There is. The portside door also opens into pool area, and if I recall correctly, that's also where there's a navigation chart hung on the bulkhead showing position, course, speed, etc.

Dear MonJ,

Welcome to CC on the Cunard Board.

As a Cunarder who steadily books Britannia Club and sometimes PG, we very much enjoy the Club area in Mid Fwd section, Port Side. We were once booked on Deck 13 Fwd on the Port Side. We favor Port Side in general. Our cabins were btw 12032 to 12052. Liked more

12032 since it does not have a overhang like the more back ones have. The overhang is were from the Sundeck.12032 cabin has the new cabins that are additions from the refit of 2016 placed on part of the previous  Sport Deck.

We did not have any negative feeling with Deck 13 cabin. Very quiet, very forward but quite a distance from the Club Dining Room on the opposite end of the ship and 11 decks down. Quite a walk. Good for walking off meals. But the plus was they were brand new from recently added and looked great. Also these cabins have baths w showers with glass doors when the other cabins have curtains.

Cabin 12032 and 12052 did not were not connecting rooms to others.

We are currently booked for a March 2025 Carib cruise and looking forward to it in about a year.

We have always enjoyed Port Side and select the cabin number personally to that side. On Caribbean sailings, we favor Port since we would have Sun to our cabin in the Mornings going down. Also can enjoy sitting early in the day on the balcony also. Living in Brooklyn, NY we really don't need to view the sailing out of the harbor since we see it all the time.

The end of the hallway toward the forward is A Staircase/Elevator if you need to access the lower decks that way. Also the Ship's Bridge can be viewed when open to see the Officers operate the ship when at sea. It is only closed in Port and during bad weather. Interesting location to view.

We really don't mind being on Deck 12 since we will be 5 decks above Deck 7  the Promenade Deck. We really never found in any of our cabins anything that annoyed us. Also there is a Partition against the edge of the ship's deck preventing noise from the Sun Deck at the farther end of Deck 12.

Cabins 12052 to 12056 on the Port side is near the metal staircase to the Sun Deck Deck 13.

Just the A lifts and staircase.  Also the entrance to the bridge viewing area.  Definitely no drinks/eatery area.

As mentioned in the past,  Forward is A Staircase/Elevator and Rear is B Staircase/ Elevator and access to Pavillion Pool and access to the outside deck. The Pavillon Pool can a bit active since passengers are bathing and their is a Bar. Also a visiting band also plays at certain times of the day in the Pavillon bar. But the cabins are quite sound proofed that really  bother us were in the cabin.

We would like to also mention, we favor the height of the Deck location for the wonderful views when  sailing all day and night long.

Those with cabins on the far end of the Deck 12 will be close to Elevator/Staircase B which will gain you access to many of the lower decks and public locations more direct.  Examples below...

Some locations a bit of distance....

Deck 9 Commodore Lounge

Deck 8 Library, Verandah Restaurant

Deck 7 Restaurants, Buffet, Gym, Bar,  Outside Deck

Deck 3 Restaurant, Upper Theater Level, Shops, Bars, Queens Room and Illuminations Theater

Deck 2 Lower Theater Level, Casino, Tour Office, Bars, Lower Restaurant Entrance, Connextions and Computer Room

We sailed in 12022 and very much liked the cabin and location. We were on a west-bound crossing so the port side location allowed us to view the Statue of Liberty from our balcony as we passed by arriving NYC. It was also the sunny side of the ship.

  • 1 month later...

We have been allocated cabin 12002, right next to the bridge for our upcoming eastbound voyage in June.

Is this likely to be a quiet location? Also, will the balcony be very windy since it is so far forward? We do like to sit out for a brief period most days.

I believe this is not the sunny side for this sailing and cabins in this area have an overhang from deck 13.

Any insights to this cabin would be invaluable since we have only ever sailed in a sheltered balcony cabin on deck 5 before.
