A new ship and the railings need to be varnished.

The exact same thing happened to me in 2018 on my first MSC cruise on the then new (a few months old) Seaside.

It must be a Fincantieri thing.

In second photo the damaged glass pane behind the hot tub. Reminded us of the same damaged glass panes on MSC Seascape. Both Grandeur and Seascape were built by Fincantieri.

It must be a Fincantieri thing. 😉

Great minds think alike.

Wish I had read this sooner. Our butler called Vishnu away from his bust schedule to have a picture taken of the 4 of us together in the atrium tonight. If we see him I will ask.

It took a couple of days and nights, but tonight the dinner was excellent. Our waiter is getting it straight and everything was great. Had a pumpkin pie with meringue topping that was out of this world.

Would love to see the pic!

Here is a 35 second clip of last night's guest performer Lauren 'something or other'. One does not come on board this ship for its entertainment. The passengers are very gracious and very few get up and walk out during a performance. (Nor do they jump up and give an ovation). The same conversations can be heard all around the ship. " Don't know how much longer I can keep this up."

Reflection. On MSC Yacht Clubs we would be privy at times to see the manifest of the Yacht Club the day of sailing. All our names and our ages. I would count the number of us over 70 years old in the YC and over 330 guest 5 of us were over 70. This Regent Grandeur is just the opposite. The entire ship is over 70 with maybe a dozen underage. No basketball, but a pickleball court and it looks unused.

guessing vishnu is on left and who on right?

Yes, Gaurav, our present butler.  Both very nice. They would have more 'sway' if they were on MSC Yacht Clubs. There is not much class distinction on Regent as on MSC. But we still get the butting to the front of the line for dinner every evening using Gaurav.

This speaks to my concerns vis-à-vis Regent, Silversea, Crystal, and Seabourn.

Cruiselines do what they do with a customer base in mind. If the aforementioned lines are presenting what septuagenarians (and those more senior) see as luxurious cruising, would I, being 15 to 20 years younger, see things in a similar manner?

Great song yet not so great execution. Just not my genre

What do they mean "don't know how much longer I can keep this up"?  Tired? Frustrated?

Oh-- and re SMOKING.. We are non smokers and were on two MSC sailings recently.

While we are not gamblers--the smoke from the Casino on Divinia filled the upper floor and into the back of the theater. The sailing was admittedly mostly pax from SA/EU/Canada.

On the Seashore there was a group of 18 that was loud, and many were smokers. It impacted where on the pool deck one might sit.

Surprising to us as we have no one in our social circles that are smokers.

What does Regent do re this? Please and TY

Oh-- and re SMOKING.

You must be reading my mind. I just videoed 10 minutes ago the smoking sections. There is NO Smoking anywhere on the ship, except 3 spots. Photo of this 12 inch cylinder outside on deck 5, out the door directly by the internet business office. NO chairs, tables or lounges catering to smokers. Smokers must stand. Used mainly by staff and crew.

Next is quick video of the Cona'sewers' Lounge for the cigar and pipes, etc behind closed doors. Outside the Observation Lounge deck 11.

Lastly this very unique, glass enclose gazebo with chairs & table on deck 5 pool deck.

Appears this is not a smokers paradise but measures have been taken to keep smok to the barest minimum. Best we have seen on any cruise ship.

Another was overheard saying back, "I don't know if I'll make it to 2026".

Ah. Probably referring to one's general state of wellness in relation to fitness for cruise travel.

First I am reminded by:

"He says, 'Son can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet
And I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes.' " Billy Joel

And then

"Cause the truth is, there's no sense living your life without this (kind of cruising). To make the journey and not fall deeply in love (with this kind of cruising), well, you haven't lived a life at all. But you have to try, cause if you haven't tried, you haven't lived." Meet Joe Black

Yes, because you two are more cultured, mature of your generation. I am the first one to point out flaws and sloppiness of fellow cruisers, like this photo I took this morning of a discarded cookie in this nook by the elevator. The difference is the degree to finding these 'shortfalls' of my fellow passengers. The mass market lines have too many inconsiderate problem drinkers. MSC YC has tried to separate us from 'them'  and we appreciate it for the great price they charge.

I do think MSC YC crew works very hard at cleaning up and making certain things are tidy.

Can say that we have seen plenty of those overserved in YC, and some very sloppy eaters that make it look like toddlers were there!.

I notice this stuff-- from people who don't put a napkin in their lap, hold a fork like a shovel, talk with their mouth full, don't shower off before entering the pool or hot tub etc.

This may sound bad, however we would prefer if MSC didn't don't do upgrades into YC, period. Also would like to see no children in the YC pool/hot tub period. An adult only experience.

Still, they seem to be our preferred niche at the moment.

I'll have more thoughts re NCL and Haven in 2 months after our TA

Want to say I have seen signs of some type in Haven pics saying that kids under 16 or so could not be in the pool..though haven't been able to find that. With the whole ship being family friendly (MSC/NCL etc) and water parks and family pools etc...

we'd really like to be sailing apart from that.

On smoking-- it always surprises me to see smokers-- even more so when they have other comorbidities (obesity) and other health issues/needs like walkers, wheelchairs. On a recent sailing one couple where on the pool deck smoking many times a day--dragging a walker with them.

My brother started smoking young (jr high/high school) My sister in law, an RN, had him at an MD and on a patch to get off smoking when they started dating. So he stopped after more than 35+ years. It can be done. Glad to hear Regent is doing it right

I’m with you no upgrades to YC unless from YC interior to YC balcony. No children in YC pool or hot tub.

I so would have eaten the cookie......

It could be worse. Someone could have returned this cookie to the cookie tray at the buffet. (Maybe they did later?)

Observation Lounge at the front of the ship. Like the Top Sail Lounge of the Yacht Club, but more of an ambiance of Le Cabaret Rouge at the back of the ship when all the draperies are pulled open.

Really lovely

The architecture and decor of the ship is so pleasant.

Can you sit in there any time of day and have bev and light bites brought to you? I imagine on a rainy day or cool and underway that it is pleasant if quiet.

Years back we found that on a few Celebrity ships that the observation lounge was often desolate and few would venture there. We could enjoy the quiet and read. Late in the afternoon as cocktail hour was upon us, they'd often bring us nice canapes and a drink.

I am the outgoing one in our household yet really value the serenity of ocean views, sea breeze, and some highly civilized service. 🥰

Yes, this Observation Lounge has a bar just like Le Cabaret Rouge.
