rbslos18 Posted March 17 #1 Share Posted March 17 We are headed from SDF to LAX next Winter. We can connect at IAH, MSP, DEN or DTW. Is IAH the best choice to avoid weather related cancellations?
CruiserBruce Posted March 17 #2 Share Posted March 17 Actually, IAH is the least experienced with weather issues, if they arise. I would go with MSP or DEN.
Rare FlyerTalker Posted March 17 #3 Share Posted March 17 Not sure why you aren't just going SDF-ATL-LAX? UA has 2 flights to DEN, 3 to IAH. DL has 3 to MSP and 4 to DTW. On the contrast, DL has 8 flights to ATL, and then a dozen flights from ATL to LAX. That has to be the routing with most options for rebookings. If you insist on one of the airports you posted, I'd choose IAH, as they aren't really snow or ice affected. Then again, that would mean you would have to fly on UA. Of the other three, MSP handles the snow the best -- remember Joe Patroni?

We have the SFO to LAX flight.
waterbug123 Posted March 17 #5 Share Posted March 17 Keep in mind that any airport in the country can be affected by weather occurring at any airport in any other part of the country. Ex. You could be flying through Miami in January and think you're safe because it won't be snowing there. But the plane you are going to board in MIA could be coming in from Buffalo. Or the plane could be sitting there but your crew got in late night before due to weather delays somewhere else and now you're flight is delayed due to mandatory crew rest. Weather creates a domino effect

Rare CDNPolar Posted March 18 #8 Share Posted March 18 During winter months, we always fly at least one day early, if not two, to ensure that weather is not a delay or cancelation factor. It is not the airport you are in or going through it is where your outbound flight is inbound from.
