hobgoblin Posted March 22 #1 Share Posted March 22 Just discovered there's no trips left for Olympia on my ships excursion. A few questions for anyone travelling /travelled before with Hal . Is it easy to get there DIY ? If not ,what else is there to see ? Is HAL likely to put on extra trips if there's a big waiting list (there seems to be a list now)Ive not travelled with this cruise line before . CruiserBruce Posted March 22 #2 Share Posted March 22 The question about adding sections is discussed frequently on the HAL board. The answer is...it depends on several variables. Some excursions and locations have very fixed capacities. Vendors have limits on numbers of buses. There may be other ships in port that are also demanding capacity. A waiting list is a positive sign, but not an absolute. They won't put on another bus until it becomes appropriate financially.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted March 22 #3 Share Posted March 22 There's really nothing else to see/do near Katakolon except Olympia, and it's not terribly far by taxi. In the past there thave also been bus tours at the dock for purchase.
Rare VMax1700 Posted March 22 #4 Share Posted March 22 Last time we were there was 2022 and there were bus tours available at the port gate. Very reasonable. Here is an extract from the post..... Bus, which is just outside the port gates, across the road costs €15 per person. 30 minutes drive to the village, 2 hours free time and then 30 minutes back to katakolo. The guy I was speaking to, told me that he was the guide and he had excellent english.
Rare Hlitner Posted March 22 #5 Share Posted March 22 We have also done it with a rental car (there are several rental car places in town within walking distance of the pier). The car let us also drive up the coast, stop at a beach (for lunch), visit a winery, etc. At one time there was a train (the station is within walking distance to the pier) but not sure if that even exists post COVID. The bus idea is great, assuming it is running. Hank
