Coin Pusher Casino Game—Do You Play These?

Many years ago they used to have tokens for T-shirts, hats, etc. It was much more fun back then. I jokingly have my "$40 cruise polo shirt". Now they juat have the BINGO tokens (one of which is almost never present). We walk by them every time we walk through the casino. Probably 20% of the time there is a random quarter that has fallen. Once we have 4 or 5 quarters and see a "ripe" machine, we usually play it back in. I think the most we ever won on one push was about $15. Overall, put more money in than we got our but otherwise a fun time. Anyone that says they make money on the push machines is both super lucky and super selective.

At one point during our cruise, it got a bit rough and they shut down the quarter pusher machines for that reason. But I do think the motion of the ship can help a little even under normal seas.

I watched one during rough seas and the money did not move at all.

 

If you look at them carefully, you can see there's a lip at the end, so the coins and $ have to go uphill.

I make a point of walking by one of these every day. I usually end up with about $5 in quarters by the end of the cruise.

We've played it on the last few cruises. It's fun! My $ last longer there than it does at the Blackjack table LOL

If we break even we are happy, but usually not.

On the surface, this appears to be a break even game.  All the quarters put in will eventually fall out.  Right?

 

Not so.  What I observed was a significant number of quarters falling off the sides of the visible area before coming down to the payout area in the middle (I hope this makes sense).

 

Having said that, the game is fun and you may luck out and win a bill.

Years ago when Explorer was doing Caribbean sailings out of NJ we hit rough seas causing captain to deploy stabilizers. Something went wrong with starboard side one causing ship to lean violently to starboard.  I was on promenade and watched carts of liquor bottles roll across deck and crash.  Most of the dishes in Portofino fell and broke.  Tropical fish from the display tanks flopped all over the floor.  Only smart one was my daughter who ran to casino and made quite a haul from these machines.

DH LOVES these machines.  I apparently prefer to go broke quicker and play slots. 😂

We saw that, too. The house always wins--in this instance by having a gap on the sides of the tray where the coins that fall through go into the collection box, not the winners' tray. Boo!!

 

We still had lots of fun watching those who were very serious about playing and also very unseriously attempting it ourselves with a few quarters (including a few rescued ones).
