WeBeCruisinMon Posted April 10 #1 Share Posted April 10 Hello! We’re getting off the carnival breeze on Monday May 6th. Looking to catch an 11:55am flight out of IAH. We get to port at 8am. We’d walk off right away with our own luggage and have TSA precheck. Is there heavy traffic port to IAH on Monday mornings after 8am? Thoughts on making this flight? We’re experienced cruisers and have often gotten off the ship prior to the stated arrival time, first time going out of Galveston though. Thanks! Texas Tillie Posted April 10 #2 Share Posted April 10 It's going to be very, very tight to make it to your flight. It is 70 miles from the port to IAH. It is Monday morning, some of the worst traffic in a city with bad traffic everyday, every hour. There is major construction at the airport and traffic backs up around the area. It can be a long hike from check in to the gate. Finally, if the flight is on time, the door to the plane will probably be closed no later than 11:40. Stress, stress, stress. I wouldn't put myself through it.
CarolynFH Posted April 15 #3 Share Posted April 15 I agree - it’s going to be tight. I’d either book a later flight or have a plan B to implement if you miss it.
PelicanBill Posted April 23 #4 Share Posted April 23 There is ALWAYS heavy traffic on the beltways around Houston from 5am to 10pm weekdays. If at all possible have a second person monitor google maps with traffic on to choose your route. Take a look at google maps on that time and day of the week a few times and create a driving route to see what to expect.

The route around our east side sails along. The drive from Galveston is two hours or less on every weekday except an occasional Friday. Make sure your driver takes the eastern route on Beltway 8. IF you self-debark, walk off early, TSA Pre-Check and have transportation there you should be at IAH before 11. Clear makes it a really smooth process. . WeBeCruisinMon Posted May 9 Author #6 Share Posted May 9 Following up on this topic as I was the original poster. We sailed, and easily made our flight. We were off the ship (self disembark) and through security by 7:45am. Walked to our parked car a few blocks away and drove to IAH taking the beltway. Got there by 9:15am to return our car. Had more than enough time for lunch after security and very easily made our 11:55am flight.

I don't walk off; I don't rush off, I have a leisurely breakfast to enjoy the end of the cruise. But I have priority disembarkation, and as soon as I find my bags, I grab a porter, who fast tracks us through Customs and Immigration/facial recognition, to our limo. At least, this is how it usually works! So I expect I'll be at HOBBY by 11:30 or so, long before my flight. This Community is wonderful with a wealth of experience and knowledge!
