Whittier to Anchorage Timing

Recommended Posts

We are on the June 2 Northbound on Nieuw Amsterdam arriving in Whittier on June 9.  We have an 8PM flight out of anchorage and we would like to get a flightseeing tour to Lake Clark National Park if possible.  The available services in Anchorage state we need to be there by 8AM.  My question:  Is it possible to get to Anchorage by 8AM if the posted disembarkation time is 7AM?  Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't plan on it at all.

First, the 7:00 AM time is more likely arrival time. The ship still needs to be cleared. The self-disembarking passengers usually leave around 7:30 +/- 15 minutes.
Second, the ride up to Anchorage is at least an hour, depending on traffic. If there's an accident, add in a LOT of time.
Third, you would need to check in at the tour company, which will also take a little time.

I would either stay over an extra day, or plan on doing something else.

There is also the issue of the tunnrl and what direction traffic is flowing at the time.

Tunnel traffic exits Whittier for 15 minutes beginning at the top of the hour.  Entering Whittier traffic begins at the bottom of the hour for 15 minutes.  If you miss a tunnel window, your plans will be interrupted or delayed.

Probably not.  There is the issue of the tunnel and the northbound cars for those that work in Anchorage.  The Anchorage streets will be busy with people getting to work.

Thank you for being more eloquent than I was! 🙂

We booked a bear lodge for 3 nights in lake clarke NP because we were warned the area fogs in a lot which means planes can't operate. What happens if you get to LC& can't get back due to incoming fog that day? Don't take the risk you will miss your flights

We went to AK 30 years ago & loved it so much we are returning next year. We did inland touring ourself ^ than took HAL southbound.  Repeating trip but adding more time inland & to LCNP.
