Host Hattie Posted April 11 #1 Share Posted April 11 It's being reported on a Live from on the Viking board that one of their ships is still docked in Cape Town so Queen Victoria is still waiting for her parking spot. 1
Devonport D Posted April 11 #2 Share Posted April 11 We are in cape town in our hotel looking out at QV going up and down. The winds were bad yesterday and increased in strength today nothing moving in port hence Viking ship stranded. Looking at the forecast I would say tomorrow should be ok as the winds decrease over night QM2 also due in town tomorrow. 3

Patria21 Posted April 11 #5 Share Posted April 11 Here on the QM2 the captain acknowledged the Victoria’s issue in his noon report but said he didn’t expect us to face any similar problems tomorrow. Fingers crossed both for us and for the people waiting to get ashore in the Victoria. 3
Rare Solent Richard Posted April 11 #6 Share Posted April 11 Live facebook and they're still not berthed - indeed one might suggest that the tours office could have started tendering excursions to Robben Island which they've passed God knows how many times today.....
Devonport D Posted April 11 #7 Share Posted April 11 I’m hear in Cape Town I can confirm Viking ship not moved QV very near to port the wind is still strong so who knows 🧐 1
nhow2 Posted April 11 #8 Share Posted April 11 We're on Queen Mary 2 due to dock in back of Queen Victoria tomorrow (Friday). Have you been able to get in yet?
longton Posted April 11 #9 Share Posted April 11 I was near the port in Cape Town an hour ago. Viking is still there. Queen Vic and Queen Mary both now likely to be there on Friday, weather permitting. Forecast is for calmer weather on Friday.
nhow2 Posted April 11 #10 Share Posted April 11 Sure hope so. A real mess for disembarking, tours, etc and especially for QV that loses a whole day. Fingers crossed for all of us.
bluemarble Posted April 11 #11 Share Posted April 11 Viking Neptune departed her berth at Cape Town about an hour ago (approximately 11:35pm local time). QV remains just outside the port for now. 2

Rare Solent Richard Posted April 12 #13 Share Posted April 12 (edited) Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 now berthed in Cape Town. If ever there was a prime example as to having adequate holiday insurance cover this has to be it. Edited April 12 by Solent Richard

It seems that both Queen Victoria and Queen Mary are in Cape Town today, so Viking being in port yesterday had nothing to do with the Victoria not entering Port. Queen Victoria was scheduled to be in Cape Town both yesterday and today. QM2 is scheduled to be there today and tomorrow. Viking Neptune being unable to depart Cape Town until late last evening most definitely affected Queen Victoria's schedule. She lost a scheduled day in Cape Town yesterday and had to spend the day off shore instead until Viking Neptune departed close to midnight. Queen Victoria is able to salvage one of her two scheduled days in Cape Town today.

Patria21 Posted April 13 #22 Share Posted April 13 The winds in Cape Town continue to be a problem. Queen Victoria did not leave port until 7 am this morning, having (our captain on the QM2 said) made several failed attempts in the middle of the night. The passengers all had to board at 4 pm so I’m afraid the extra hours did them no good. 1

Actually the immigration officials extended the timeframe, so we didn't have to be back on board QV until 6.00pm. We had a great day with glorious weather, making it all the sadder that we missed the first day in port. We left at just after 7.00am this morning, so approx 12 hours late. We'll no doubt hear shortly whether that will impact the call to Walvis Bay. 6

Here’s hoping the rest of your trip goes smoothly.
