18 Day Cruise- Stop in Ft. Lauderdale

Recommended Posts

We just booked an 18 day Caribbean and the ship stops back in Ft Lauderdale to embark for a 7 day itinerary. Do we have to get off that day or can we just stay on while some leave and others join?

You can stay on board and enjoy having the ship to yourself for a few hours.

You'll be an in transit passenger. You will need to assemble with all other in transit passengers. likely in the theater and escorted off the ship for a quick check with immigration and to validate all passengers have been accounted for. Bring your ship ID and travel documents.  The check can take as few as 10 minutes.

Hope that your fellow passengers comply- it's all or nothing, and they won't proceed until everyone shows up.

Once done, you can return immediately to the ship or continue to go ashore. There is a Walgreen's at the port entrance and a Total Wine and Publix supermarket several blocks away. It is walkable if needed, but be very careful about cars. Many crewman will be walking the same path.

Nope. A B2B at a US port almost always requires clearing the ship. The OP will need to go through Immigration (not Customs) procedures.

Yes but at least they won't have to go further than the terminal.  Many times I've been able to turn around and go right back on board.  Like someone said, how long you're tied up is dependent on others not following directions.  They will hopefully still have plenty of time to enjoy the peace and quiet.

But that is not staying on board and kicking back. That is what happens in non-US ports. There is a mandatory procedure in US ports.
