BEAV Posted May 17 #26 Share Posted May 17 Surfing through this thread reinforces why for the past 5-6 years we now wait until after final payment time to book as we’re bargain seekers! I realize that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, some folks have to book early, etc, but it simply works fine for us. While I realize demand for cruising is high following the pandemic, each sailing is its own entity, and supply and demand will forever dictate pricing. Atarangi957 Posted May 17 #27 Share Posted May 17 We were looking at cruises for Oceania and Cunard for 12-14 nights for late summer or fall. We had been on Celebrity in RS on M class and loved it. In the last year or so pricing got quite high and no longer gratuities or OBR. I thought maybe I would look at Celebrity. The Aug 4-16 Newark to Reykjavik was now down to 5520 pp so basically half. There were 3 RS so I got one. It lasted less than 24 hours.

As of today for 9/1/24 Solstice a Sky Suite is priced the same as a Celebrity Suite. You piqued my interest so I checked this out. Unfortunately all the CS are gone. Aqua Sky was still a good price. Then I checked airfare and hotels. Just not willing to pay $700+ for a flight and close to $400 for a decent hotel room. Oh well. This particular Alaska cruise seems to be quite a bit lower than others. I looked at the itinerary and I think that's why. IMHO the times in port, with one exception, are not very ideal at all. Not saying you couldn't enjoy Alaska regardless but since I never eat dinners onshore I don't like to arrive in mid-afternoon, regardless of how late the ship stays. I book everything very early to get best choice of cabins, flights, seats, excursions and hotel availability. Then I set up alerts or check back regularly for repricing. In all my years, flights have never gone lower after booking close to a year out but cruises and hotel rooms I usually get about 30% lower before final payment/travel.
Atarangi957 Posted May 17 #30 Share Posted May 17 The other thing I saw was for the cruise from Reykjavik to Boston 12nights was about $9000 more than from Newark to Reykjavik. Same ship number of nights, and ship. It was just 2 weeks later.
gcornell Posted June 12 Author #31 Share Posted June 12 Bumping this as another PSA to keep checking prices. I repriced again, lost count (maybe 7), and saved another $350.
gcornell Posted June 12 Author #32 Share Posted June 12 Couldn’t edit but wanted to clarify that I did the math and today’s repricing dropped the rate another $1,300 for a total now of $6,500.
sushraya Posted June 12 #33 Share Posted June 12 Can I ask how you are doing this? Cabin booked directly with Celebrity, with non refundable deposit, still not at final payment date. You keep checking prices and if the price has dropped, you call celebrity and get them to honor the price drop? Is this in the US or UK? And do you check cabin prices just for your class of cabin? I've been looking but unfortunately, it looks like all oceanview cabin are sold out on the cruise we are on - so don't think I'll see a price drop there. We are pretty close to final payment though. Sure. In the US. Paid non refundable deposit. Booked with a Virtuoso agent. I set up a price alert on shipmate which isn’t very accurate but provides direction and prompts me to do dummy booking to check actual prices. Then I email by TA and about an hour later he sends me confirmation.

Keep checking especially a couple of weeks prior to final payment. Many people cancel just before final payment is due which will allow you to see current pricing. canderson Posted June 12 #36 Share Posted June 12 Have only once been on the receiving end of a repricing. That was at the very beginning of the 'restart' after COVID. We wound up with $6500 in OBC (repriced after final) split between 2 legs of a B2B. Left a fair bit of it with the crew. Other times, our category gets sold out and there is no comparison price! I ended up with a $24,000 FCC from silverseas because I had a bunch of cruises cancelled before they realized that it was going bankrupt them.
