Cruiser Craig Posted April 26 #2 Share Posted April 26 (edited) Hello, ironically, searching for an answer, I found that you basically just asked my same question. Almost the same, except that our flight departs even earlier (10:00AM) and I've never seen a ship's transfer on offer for flights leaving that early. Here's to hoping taxis are readily available and arrival formalities go quickly! Edited April 26 by Cruiser Craig syntax
Nitemare Posted April 26 #3 Share Posted April 26 It's about an hour by taxi from anywhere in the city to the airport. It is important at KEF to arrive 3 hours prior to an international flight
CountessP Posted May 2 #4 Share Posted May 2 I am on NCL and they told me you need 5 hours. Our ship arrives at 4AM, my flight is at 9:40AM. I booked the transport via NCL. They have my flight info and approved the transport request so I am confident the 5 hours is enough time. More importantly, I booked NCL transport (75pp) because I am told getting a taxi can be challenging since here are far more passengers than taxis available. Hope that helps in your decision making.

If there are two of you, then their bus makes sense. For more than 2 a taxi would be a better deal. Flybus is also a good option, probably better than the NCL transport as it would take about as long but would be much less expensive
CountessP Posted May 2 #6 Share Posted May 2 I agree about Flybus being a good idea, if you have a bit more time. I have a tight connection, so I like the idea of making NCL responsible!! They accepted the booking, knowing my flight info, so if there is a screw up, I have someone with whom to share the blame. It's also less stressful for me. That's worth the extra few bucks! All the US flights leave in like a one hour window, so everyone shows up the same time

Capt_BJ Posted May 26 #11 Share Posted May 26 my experience with flybus last July ... they use a 'local' bus to collect folks from around town and bring you to the bus terminal where you transfer to a 'long haul' bus for the ride to the airport. The extra time wasn't A LOT but it did add time. The trip to the airport was nearly 90 minutes from downtown hotel (near the port ... actually one of the hotels Viking Ocean uses) It is possible your cruise could book special bus based on demand but if you are considering flybus as an OPTION to a booked transfer I'd say it would be longer time wise . . jhenry1 Posted August 2 #12 Share Posted August 2 So ncl offers a transport to the airport. When did you book the transfer and what is the cost? We are on the cruise next year and disembarkation is at 4 am.
shirtboy Posted August 6 #13 Share Posted August 6 I was on NCL this summer and our particular ship arrived the day before in Reykjavik and did an overnight. When getting off the next morning at 8AM (self disembarkation with own luggage), there was no line to disembark since some people got off the day before. If you are on a ship that doesn't overnight in Reykjavik, there may be more of a queue to get off the ship. Getting off later allows you to eat a quick breakfast before your flight. I booked a private transfer to pick up at 8AM. Flight to the United States scheduled at 11AM, so was plenty of time to check in luggage since we arrived at the airport by 9AM, and the check-in deadline for checked luggage was 10AM for our airline. Of course, you are free to add more buffer time to meet your own risk tolerance. The private transfer worked out to be $41USD per person, which is way cheaper than NCL, and we didn't have to get up ridiculously early since transfers from NCL have way too much buffer time. Your price will vary depending on your party size. Taxis could be in short supply so it is ideal to look into a private transfer for those early morning flights. Nitemare Posted August 6 #14 Share Posted August 6 It is recommended to arrive at KEF Airport 3 hours prior to international flights. I have had it take close to 2 hours to get checked in and start walking to the gates (which are a long walk) so I would not suggest getting picked up in the city just 3 hours prior to flight time
ev8876 Posted August 18 #15 Share Posted August 18 We just flew out of KEF this past Friday, 8/16. From airport drop off it took us 2 hours to get through all the phases of check in and passport control and arrive at the gate. The gate area at the D gates area was pure chaos. It was an hour ride to the airport in a private transfer.
