You are correct. I'm not sure exactly what the genus for the panther is. They look alot like a Jaguar but they are black.
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 12 Author #104 Share Posted July 12 We had a beautiful day for our sailaway out of Vancouver. I went to the sail away party on the pool deck to dance the Macarena and YMCA etc, much to the embarrassment of my family. I should know better but I almost fell over at the price of DH’s favourite chocolate biscuits on board in the onboard shop that I regularly pay $2.50 aud per box on sale at Coles- this was the price in on board 9.50 usd 😳
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 12 Author #105 Share Posted July 12 (edited) As soon as bookings opened up online prior to the cruise, I booked our dinner reservations. Spread our bookings across two different MDR dining venues. Food & service was superb. My daughter liked the wild salmon sockeye so much, she chose it 5 nights out of seven… Edited July 12 by aussielozzie18
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 12 Author #106 Share Posted July 12 I never got up for sunrise, so this would have been a sunset photo from our balcony Beautiful calm seas
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 12 Author #107 Share Posted July 12 (edited) Packing for Alaska for a late April/May cruise - it didn’t even occur to me to pack swimmers 😳 but our first sea day, it was so warm, the family members who did made full use of the outdoor pools - both the one of the top deck and the outdoor one at the rear. The inside pool didn’t open until a couple days into the cruise. Not sure why. Instead I went to the Naturalist introduction talk which was interesting. And also went to the cheesy introduction to cruisers session but unfortunately I didn’t win any of the good prizes they gave out which I would have liked to win. No need to sit up close to the stage and put your hand up to participate these days - they just pick you randomly from your medallion profile Our cruise director (with mic) & Stanley the Bear. We are supposed to have big cats in the Blue Mountains…not sure if there is any truth to it though.

Yes many reported sightings over the years. Nothing has ever been confirmed, so nobody knows for sure if fact or fiction. Many locals in the mountains swear the story is true. Many stories of the origin of the mysterious Blue Mountains panther(s), from a US military mascot released by it's company, to an escapee from the Warragamba wildlife park or a travelling circus, to the creature being an escape by a panther used as a game day promotion for the mighty Penrith Panthers Rugby League team back in late 1960's. Not sure we will ever know. When we travelled the Canadian Rockies by car in 2014, we saw lots of signs warning of bears, but never did see a bear 🙂

Putting up motion sensor cameras deep in the mountains. What they have discovered so far is there is a lot of deer in the mountains. More than they expected to see. Ill talk about bears later in my TR.
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 17 Author #111 Share Posted July 17 We had a beautiful sail in for our first port - Sitka. Saw 4 whales off our balcony (with binoculars)
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 17 Author #112 Share Posted July 17 Unfortunately, we had Quantum of the Seas in port with us. I learnt this a couple months before and knew it would have an impact on such a small port. We were advised the night before that due to Sitka only being able to provide a limited number of buses (to be shared between both ships) that shuttle tickets would be needed and we would need to be patient as they expected lengthy delays… Nevertheless it was a beautiful morning weather wise waiting for our number to be called
