Cougars are Mountain Lions arn't they? or Panthers, or maybe both?

I have heard of the danger of Mountain Lions in the USA.

IIRC Cougar, Mountain Lion and Puma are different names for the same animals while Panther is a sub species of Leopards.

You are correct. I'm not sure exactly what the genus for the panther is. They look alot like a Jaguar but they are black.

We had a beautiful day for our sailaway out of Vancouver.  I went to the sail away party on the pool deck to dance the Macarena and YMCA etc, much to the embarrassment of my family.  A2B29E5A-BEE4-4DDE-9D84-F1A69FFCF1E1.thumb.jpeg.00a6f461c5ede319d520d32b7dc26a74.jpeg

I should know better but I almost fell over at the price of DH’s favourite chocolate biscuits on board in the onboard shop that I regularly pay $2.50 aud per box on sale at Coles- this was the price in on board 9.50 usd 😳9AAEC355-6F9F-42DA-B689-C9543C623771.thumb.jpeg.40e2a7796ae5d67b19c39a8bb3ebb82c.jpeg

As soon as bookings opened up online prior to the cruise, I booked our dinner reservations.
Spread our bookings across two different MDR dining venues.  Food & service was superb.AB73D405-A11A-458F-A560-09192499DC44.thumb.jpeg.256c3952d8c279d476db56909279f9dd.jpeg

My daughter liked the wild salmon sockeye so much, she chose it 5 nights out of seven…

Packing for Alaska for a late April/May cruise - it didn’t even occur to me to pack swimmers 😳 but our first sea day, it was so warm, the family members who did made full use of the outdoor pools - both the one of the top deck and the outdoor  one at the rear.

The  inside pool didn’t open until a couple days into the cruise.  Not sure why.

Instead I went to the Naturalist introduction  talk which was interesting.1A170598-ACE8-4317-B757-FAD4470B6DDC.thumb.jpeg.b5c341fbcfe89190afa5ae8a23001026.jpeg

And also went to the cheesy introduction to cruisers session but unfortunately I didn’t win any of the good prizes they gave out which I would have liked to win. No need to sit up close to the stage and put your hand up to participate these days - they just pick you randomly from your medallion profile C27EAE17-C9DF-4487-B613-BACA336FAB43.thumb.jpeg.75c7bde069f3255d8bc01487534de376.jpeg

We are supposed to have big cats in the Blue Mountains…not sure if there is any truth to it though.

Yes many reported sightings over the years. Nothing has ever been confirmed, so nobody knows for sure if fact or fiction. Many locals in the mountains swear the story is true.

Many stories of the origin of the mysterious Blue Mountains panther(s), from a US military mascot released by it's company, to an escapee from the Warragamba wildlife park or a travelling circus, to the creature being an escape by a panther used as a game day promotion for the mighty Penrith Panthers Rugby League team back in late 1960's.

Not sure we will ever know.

When we travelled the Canadian Rockies by car in 2014, we saw lots of signs warning of bears, but never did see a bear 🙂

There is a group actively seeking evidence  atm.  Putting up motion sensor cameras deep in the mountains.  What they have discovered so far is there is a lot of deer in the mountains.  More than they expected to see.

Ill talk about bears later in my TR.

Unfortunately, we had Quantum of the Seas in port with us.  I learnt this a couple months before and knew it would have an impact on such a small port.CB0758FD-60AB-45AD-83DB-9532A2FEF48D.thumb.jpeg.2b41469972d7ba2fbc6688226643e13d.jpeg

We were advised the night before that due to Sitka only being able to provide a limited number of buses (to be shared between both ships) that shuttle tickets would be needed and we would need to be patient as they expected lengthy delays…80520E66-8531-4B43-933B-F02D103083BF.thumb.jpeg.aa699636a28c2d3b72374d3643885170.jpeg
