Questions about Excursions for Zaandam Jun 12

Recommended Posts

My family and family friends (group of 11 total) will be going on this trip and we were wondering if there are group rates for excursions.  If so, how many people do we need to make a group and what kind of discount should we expect?  Furthermore, do we have to call a special group booking line or anything?  Another thing is we missed the boat (pun intended) on the Tracy Arm excursion and are now on the waitlist.  Anyone have experience on how likely it is to get from the waitlist to an actual spot available?  Thanks everyone!

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

Never heard of a group rate for excursions, other than some ports have a car/van/similar "private" tour that is for a group up to the size of the vehicle for one price.

Not sure anyone is going to have solid factual info on your wait list questions.

I've never seen a group rate for shorex.  What might be less expensive is to book your tours privately.  But I don't think you can do the Tracy Arm excursion privately...

You might find some suggestions for private excursions for your group on the Ports of Call, Alaska forum.  You can post a new thread for your ports or find threads already there.  It looks like your Roll Call is not very active but you might check other roll calls for Alaska to see if there are suggestions.  And, then try posting for private tours on Trip Advisor.  I don't think HAL offers discounts for the number in your group but private tour operators usually do.   You'll have a great time.  Cherie

We cruised in a family group of 9 and were able to get a private van and driver/guide through Sourdough Tours in Ketchikan. It was great! We visited several spots, and the commentary was excellent (Native American guide gave us "insider info" on totems, etc).

If you pursue this,

ask if Stormin' Norman is still guiding for them!

Oh I see, great, thanks!  I figured the tracy arm can't be done outside of the cruise, but it's good to get some confirmation.  I'll look into stormin' norman, thanks!
