Pre- and post- drydock repo cruises

Recommended Posts

We're on Adventure this fall on eastbound and westbound Transatlantic cruises. There's 2 1/2 week drydock in between.

How much/what parts of the ship have you seen closed off/out of service in preparation for and after a short drydock?

I'm hoping kids' clubs and activities (splash pad, slides) will be open for the grandkids traveling with us.

Our only experience was on the Explorer Xmas/New Year 2009/10. We were on the 14 night Xmas/NY cruise from Cape Liberty and Explorer was due to Bermuda for re fit after that cruise. If I remember correctly, our last port was St Kitts before returning to Cape Liberty, so 2 sea days before disembark. Work was started during the last 2 days and the pool area was closed for those 2 days,  as they were ripping up the green 'carpet' round the pools ready for replacement. OK, this was winter and on the second day the guys were in survival suits (!), but we still viewed it as a 'loss of amenity'. Also, on one of these days, they closed the Champagne Bar (which is the R Bar now), dumped all the furniture in the walkway by the bridge between the elevators and the Royal Promenade and ripped all the carpet out of there too. We didn't use this bar, so didn't affect us, but we thought the blockage of the walkways, especially if there had been an emergency, was a big no no! When we got home, we aired our views to RCI and got a £1500 refund, so be warned...could be some inconvienience.

We were on Vision the two cruises before the drydock she just finished.  There were contractors onboard both cruises.  We saw one walking around with a ship's officer on the outer deck looking at some things.  At one point, they had blocked off one entrance to the Solarium for a bit to pull some ceiling panels.  Another time, they were working in the ceiling on deck 8 in the guest cabin hallway.  So, there will be some minor things at times, but nothing was closed for us.

That's ship specific and unknown. The examples in this thread are just that, but you can't assume the same thing will happen on your sailings. Unlikely any obvious work will happen after the dry dock.
