Oh I am sorry your Diamond lunch was disappointing . Where did you go ? Can we go anywhere ? I wouldn’t like some of the other restaurants and am happy with Verandah as an option on the others.  Glad you are enjoying the  MDR dining experience on Queen Anne and sounds like you have met some pleasant friends. I only go with P &O once a year and nothing currently booked. Had no problems on Britannia with a table for one at breakfast and the odd lunch last May and was fixed late in the evening.

Sir Samuel's is the venue here.  The food was very nice.  I was surprised at how many items there were chargeable compared with the other Queens.

It's quite a small venue.  A row of seats next to the window looking down to the pool area with sea beyond and then a row with one seat facing the window view and the other inyo the room.  There are seats in a dort of l shape off.  Again two rows.  I was sat on the inside row facing the pool and I felt quite exposed there.  My time was 12.30pm, the noon guys obviously had all the window seats which were the opposite way round and definitely less exposed so more private.

What kind of holiday can you compare sharing tables with others and eating at the same time at fixed times every night in the same place to?

Where does this happen nowadays in the modern world apart from  on the more old fashioned cruise ships?

It does happen on escorted coach trips. And it does happen on Warner holidays I believe? (Not sure on the sharing tables bit)

But where else would you get this?

As for dinner jacket dining maybe once a year at a New Year's Eve event? Or maybe a summer ball?

Dresscodes have become more relaxed pretty much everywhere in the modern world?

Dining at Warners

if not part of a coach party -

You have a table the size of your party. You are not expected to share with random strangers.

You book your dining before the holiday.

In the main restaurant, in some hotels you get a different table each time you visit. In other hotels you get an allocated table - mostly you can choose your own table.  Either way, you do not have a fixed time - you book your own time, for both breakfast and dinner.

in hotels that have alternative restaurants you get a different table each time you visit. Again, the time is not fixed  - you book your choice of time for both breakfast and dinner.

If it’s a coach party, as far as I can see there is less flexibility. They tend to be allocated a large table or a  group of tables in the same part of the restaurant.

I've fully embraced Warners as my main holiday choice, and I'm not a crusty old cruiser, wedded to how 'it was done' 25 years ago.

Warner's have sucessfully managed to appeal to a wide range of adults aged approx 45 and above. The mid week breaks tend to be a bit quieter as its mainly the retired crowd, but the weekends, especially the festivals are far from the 80+ elderly crowd that you seem to be imagining.  Even the mid-week breaks can be lively - last Tuesday I was in a conga line with a Boy George tribute act, singing 'Church of the Poison Mind'. Something I've never done on a cruise ship!

I did Warner Hayling Island aged 26 (29 years ago) with my wife (then girlfriend) and enjoyed it

I much prefer cruising though

People change as well as times,we sailed on Britannia when she was new,at the time these forums were full of posts from people saying they wouldn't go near such a massive ship, these days she is a tiddler & seems pretty popular!

Last year we sailed on Arcadia, loved it,more like a proper ship than a floating hotel IMO,had some of the best meals we have ever had at sea in Ocean Grill, closely followed by Sindhu, the Rising Sun was one of the nicest bars I have been in afloat, lovely room, adults only was another plus as was decent size balcony,dated..well yes,as long as it is clean & comfortable we really don't care though.

A bad side was the size of the ship can make it difficult to get away from rude people of which there were a few, both those who treat the crew like something they find on the bottom of their shoes & those who are rude to everyone, after 3 weeks of them we were pretty glad to get off!

On Arcadia pretty much nothing was done on the App which only worked part time,it would seem that life on Arvia & Iona pretty much depends on using the App,me & Apps do not get on!😮😮

We are booked again on Arcadia next year, really looking forward to seeing her again, can't really see us booking Arvia or Iona,I have seen too many videos where,IMO,the atrium area looks like a cross between a shopping mall & an airport lounge, the dining area by the Keel & Cow noisy with people passing through...really not at all appealing not to mention cabins with shallow balconies, especially those alongside the running track!

Large ships don't phase us,we have been on RCI's Quantum class ships & loved them,we are all different!

We go to warner regularly amongst many other types of holiday. I suppose I am in the P&O,Royal,NCL,Celebrity, TUI. BA,Haven, John Fowler, Hilton..... ...oh, can't be bothered Crowd. Isn't it tedious when folk think they can pigeon hole you into a particular " crowd " so,, what demographic am I in. I will in future try and avoid straying into an inappropriate Crowd.

Going back to the original post, would you kindly be able to provide the times of the shows on Iona during the Norway cruises in the three main venues? Might help me to decide booking reservations in the restaurants.

Many Thanks

These were the timings on Iona during the Norway cruise a few weeks ago. No bookings were required at all as they had to adjust the programme due to injury. Just walk in.
