TxTeach79's Pearl European Adventure LIVE - 6/24

Recommended Posts

At first there were some great views and it seemed like it wouldn’t be terrible…. People were joking and talking about how insane it was but in a funny way… but the walk had just started and we hadn’t hit the donkey zone yet….

And I have a feeling she will be for a good long while. Mayhem doesn’t begin to describe it

Very glad you are both safely back on board.  If I were in your shoes I'd be drinking a Painkiller and have another one in reserve.

We already decided Santorini is out of the cruise equation for us, should have gone when we were much younger and in better physical condition.  Will watch YouTube videos done in "low" season and say how beautiful 🙂

All of a sudden, standstill. Donkey traffic. No one getting through for about five minutes. The donkey staff (?) was not pleasant, yelling, refusing to sell rides to solo travelers… and the smell, my god, the smell…

i love a good painkiller, but I just got out of the shower, it’s late, and I’m exhausted. I don’t think we’re moving tonight.

We start moving, weaving among the donkeys at first. This is when you start to hear voices raise and relationships being tested. There are slick spots and the stairs sort of slant, not to mention the piles of poop everywhere. So it’s a challenge, especially for older folks and people with any sort of mobility limitations.

It was getting darker, and the moss was getting uglier. One lady was loudly detailing her imminent lawsuits, another outlining what the shore excursions desk was gonna hear from her…. Still another ready to take down the government of Santorini…. That’s when I heard the thud and scream. A few steps behind me, B had gone down hard. No photos of that.

She was unhurt (we think so far), but the overall frustration of the day got to her at this point. I think people saw her reaction and ran over to check on her, see if she was all right. She just hit a slick spot- they’re everywhere - and went down. I think between the sunburn, tired legs, and the fall, she’s gonna have a triple threat of pain tomorrow….

undaunted, we had no choice but to soldier on. The 9pm deadline had now passed, but she was back on her feet and the fight continued

Finally, the end was in sight. It was dark now but we could hear commotion in the distance, so we knew we were close. B was really struggling to get over the finish line, but she would suck it up and get it done - this last stretch was the easiest. It was steeper and more level

We were gonna make it! Crew members were out holding signs up that said “Pearl” making sure we were on the right ship. Epic was down the dock to the left.

There was another monster line to get back on the tenders. The conversations in this line were SALTY. I would hate to work at Guest Services tonight. Or tomorrow. Let’s just say that much…. But the views were good and at this point we knew we had made it

Wow. Take B to the nearest hot tub.

I just read her this and in a very sad voice she said “that would be horrible on my sunburn”…. I love where your head is, but the girl is D-O-N-E DONE.

Same here.  Not sure where you live, but I'm guessing that Paul's greater fluency is Texas proximity (and maybe a love of Spanish speaking sitcoms on Telemundo).

I live in TX and spent 40+ years working in the public school system. 20 of those years I was an English as a Second Language teacher. I have two years of high school and one semester of college Spanish.

I spent 8 years working at the "Black-eyed Pea" restaurant. Texas folks will recognize that spot. Knowing a bit of Spanish definitely helped me get my food orders faster than my English-only peers. My Spanish speaking co-workers appreciated the fact that I tried to converse with them.

The ride over was actually breezy and beautiful. We managed to laugh a bit and be beyond thankful it was over and we were headed home

I want a Texas Sized CFS just reading this. Fried okra and mashed potatoes on the side. We used to get a big bag of rolls from the Pea  every Thanksgiving. My high school gf worked there! I miss that place. Thank you for your service

I was holding my breath when you said you guys decided to do the stairs.  I'm so sorry B took a fall.  Hoping when she wakes up in the morning, she isn't too sore.

You should go get her some ice cream for on the balcony!!

Home Sweet Home. Shower was life changing. Feel a little bad “missing a night” but I’m donezo. We get to Mykonos at 7am. Last tender back is way early at 2p. I have no desire to do anything now but I know we’ll rally tomorrow. Probably get off around 9 and just fiddle around close to the ship. Then, it happens…. A SEA DAY

Okay okay I totally understand. How about a cold shower and a few ice packs.
one of the reason I travel with ziplocks, ice packs seem to be necessary occasionally.  This would be one. Darn.
