Just found this on carnival.com:

Great news: on Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras, your first meal at Cucina del Capitano is on the house… and additional visits are just $8!

Sounds too good to be true!

Cucina del Capitano®
Ships: Breeze, Celebration, Horizon, Jubilee, Magic, Mardi Gras, Panorama, Radiance, Sunrise, Sunshine, Vista
Cost: $ *
Dinner Menu

A delicious dinner time option with made-to-order Italian favorites in comfortable, relaxed surroundings. For dinner, there is a fee* of $24 per adult and $6 per child 11 and under (when ordering from the Kids' menu, available upon request). The fee includes a starter, entrée, dessert and the wait staffs’ gratuity; additional gratuities may be extended at the guest's discretion. The fee does not include any beverage that is normally ordered through bar service such as wine, liquor, soda and bottled water. Reservations* are recommended and can be requested prior to your cruise on Carnival.com by accessing ‘My Cruise Manager’. Reservations can also be made on board and walk-ins are welcome, space permitting. Open for dinner; Cucina del Capitano is also open for lunch with a complimentary made-to-order pasta bar.
*On Celebration, Jubilee and Mardi Gras, this venue is an alternative to eating in the Main Restaurant and is inclusive in the cruise fare. Any beverage that is normally ordered through bar service such as wine, liquor, soda and bottled water is additional. Pre-cruise reservations are not available. On the Celebration and Mardi Gras, we have added a charge of $8 per guest (per visit), for guests who dine at Cucina del Capitano more than once.

Awesome--excited to try both!

For Dinnertime you need to have Anytime Dining to eat as early as either opens, if you have First or Second Seating I believe you cannot reserve/dine there until 7:45.

Oh good.

Also try Guys Pig and Anchor at dinnertime, we had wonderful meals there, you do not reserve but rather walk up individual at entrance who is seating people, (beware there are some upcharge choices). The first time on Celebration we did not realize dinnertime was complimentary, plus can go there more than once without a fee.

Nope, one of those cases where it isn't too good to be true!

But there is a reason for why, as they do it to help relieve the MDR of overcrowding by offering other complimentary options to spread out diners since there are a lot more of them on the Excel class ships.

I really liked having this free dining option on the Mardi Gras. We ate there twice so we paid $8 for the second meal. Totally worth it as we were not loving the MDR menu and service.

And something else to note - lunch at either Cucina or Chibang complimentary for unlimited visits.

Keep in mind that Pasta Belle is not the same thing as Cucina del Capitano. It just occupies that space.

This is true, lunch menus are not the same as the dinner menus. Lunch is served at both Cucina and ChiBang on sea days only and both are great options.
