Wayfairers Posted July 30 #1 Share Posted July 30 I see online that HAL pays OBC for AARP membership - Inside/Ocean View $50-$100 per cabin depending upon cruise length and Verandah/Suite $100-$200 per cabin depending upon cruise length. I am considering joining AARP just for the OBC but have questions for those of you who have gotten the OBC before. I see online that the OBC request is made using a form on the HAL website. Can AARP OBC be added if CCL stock ownership OBC is received on the same cruise? How long does it take to get AARP OBC approval? Do you ask for approval once and it is added to your account or do you have to get approval every time you book a cruise? On our upcoming 11 day cruise we are receiving at total of $400 in non refundable OBC. My husband is getting $300 ($100 each for Military Veteran, First Responder and Shareholder). I am getting $100 for AARP. The AARP membership had to be in my name because it was not combinable with one of his. As a solo I was told that AARP and stockholder weren't stackable. I can only get one or the other. But if there are two in a cabin, one can claim one and the other the other. Both our AARP and our stocks are held in both of our names, and the combined total appears under MY name as I am Primary with HAL. We've had CCL stock for many years and have never had any trouble getting the full OBC. Recently, we found out about the AARP (which we already were members of because of our Medicare Supplement Insurance) and also I am a retired teacher. Our cruise in Apr we got all of them, wasn't expecting it all because we had already booked the cruise before we applied for the new benefits. We just got off a July land/sea tour and only got portions. They can't (or won't) give you a break down of how much you got for each. We have a 14-day August cruise coming up and it looks like we have all of it on that cruise (based on the total). Again, no way to find out the break down. We have a 14-day October cruise too which is only showing about half of what we're showing on the Aug cruise. I will be trying to get more information about that as we get closer. It seems that no one really knows all of the answers to our OBC questions. You get a different answer every time you ask someone else. You'd think HAL would know 90% of their client base is AARP eligible and if they didn't want to give it, why offer it at all? I do think it isn't combinable with all cruise fares. We have never used casino fares and I'm pretty sure that isn't compatible with other OBC. Any time we have enough OBC to pay gratuities and wifi, we call it a win! If you booked through a TA, you have to call them. It's not combinable w/all fare types. Casino rate I could not get AARP or Shareholder.
