RCI On board credit. Use in Casino?

Recommended Posts

We are not real familiar with RCI.

For our Sept sailing on Symphony, we have a fair amount of OBC.

Can this be used at slot machines by charging play to the room account?

Thanks for advice.

If you don't gamble all the transferred funds, you will be locked from future transfers for the rest of the cruise. It's a pain to keep track of how much you've actually put into the machine from the transfer, so I suggest you transfer small amounts at a time, then more when you know you've gambled all of it.

Also, any obc on your account will be used for daily gratuities, which are automatically charged to your account. I frequently use obc to offset the gratuities.

Good answer.  Works like other ships we've been on.

We will charge $20 to the room, play it through, then cash out the balance.  Repeat ad nauseum.

Transfer all the OBC to a slot machine, make one play, and cash out.  Put the cash-out ticket in the machine by the cashier, and get your money.  Spend it as you please.  If you haven't prepaid gratuities, they will accrue daily to your sea-pass account.    If you have non-complimentary food or beverage, it will be charged to your sea-pass.   This can all be paid at the end of the voyage with some of that cash.  Meanwhile that money is now usable on shore for swag, taxis, admission, food, whatever.

You can cancel gratuities by calling GS from your cabin-phone!

Correct, except to remember if it's cashed out before being played out, no further account charges to the room are allowed for the rest of the cruise.

The above statement is simply not true.

1) One only needs to play out half (put $100 in machine, play $50, cash out if desired).   The amount you cash out after playing thru 1/2 is irrelevant (could be $50 if you lost every pull, could be $5k if one was beyond 'lucky').

2) If you don't play 1/2, some RC ships will lock you out for 3 days, so don't.

3) Lock out, if applicable, is for 3 days.  If remainder of cruise is less than 3 day, than your statement about 'rest of cruise' is correct.

4) If locked out, simply converse w/ the casino host.  They will either direct you to guest services to reinstate permission for charges, or they will get it resolved for you.

The problem with absolute statements is it only takes one example to prove the statement false.

Not this one: I have never remove auto gratuities on an RCCL ship, and I never will. I do not penalize a group of hard working people for the mistakes of another. I put the problem to RCCL in the after cruise survey.

I don't cheat people out of part of their salary, even though I would prefer the gratuities be included in the cruise price. I frequently prepay my gratuities, too.

The statement was about the ability to remove grats via a phone call not what you do.

Yes, I understand. No matter what the "delivery system", I would never do this.

Considering:

-- I only visit the casino once,

-- On the evening of day 1,

-- To play my free spins for Diamond.

I'm quite happy to be permanently locked out of casino room charges.

Me, too! Day 1 or 2 is my "pick up my free money day". Getting locked out from more account transfers in the casino is OK with me.

My experience is exactly as bucfan2 has described in point 1 above.  On Harmony recently, I cashed out  $500 of on board credit via at least 10 downloads of $100 to slot machine, then would play at least $50 and cash out whatever the remaining balance was.  Did this over first 5 days of cruise, no lockouts, no issues.
