We cruised with our kids when Daniel, our son was couple weeks shy of his 21st birthday. Imagine our shock when we got our final bill with a $350 alcohol charge. He made friends with a bartender by slipping him some singles and was provided with cocktails on his card even though he had a special bracelet (11 years ago). We went to guest services but they didn’t take off charges. Part of me didn’t want to get bartender in trouble but I should have insisted so we paid the bill.

In my opinion, that bartender should have been fired. Royal Caribbean has a strict no-alcohol policy for those under the age of 21 and it is usually strictly enforced.

I don’t understand why many people like to drink alcohol so much. It has never made sense to me.

Is it 21 on all sailings? I find the whole drinking age concept confusing. I grew up in the UK where you can drink at 18 but really 16 is acceptable. I now live in Canada where it’s 19. Yet in America it’s 21. We are in Mexico today ;I believe legally it’s 18 here) but my 17 year old has been offered alcohol several times. I actually have zero issue with her drinking as I trust her 💯 to not abuse it. I feel like the problems really start with it being “forbidden “…

Hmmmm. I thought it was 21 on all sailings, yet perhaps that’s only on cruises departing the US. I know that once the ship reaches international waters, then the casinos are opened up and people age 18+ are allowed to play in the casinos. I wonder about European cruises. Most European countries have drinking ages lower than age 21, so I wonder if Royal Caribbean adjusts accordingly.

It doesn’t really matter to me as I can’t drink alcohol (mainly for medical reasons) and I have no problem with people enjoying a glass of wine or a beer with their meal. It’s just when people get totally plastered and acting stupid is where I have a problem.

As long as people drink responsibly and are enjoying themselves, I have zero issues.

We are doing Nachi when we cruise in October, but are planning a group cruise for our youngest's college graduation next May.  We may have to check out Paradise Beach for that one.  It looks great!

We were told the ship age to drink follows the law of the country of the departing port so, since the US is 21, you have to be 21 to order.  Our daughter and her friend were just shy of 21 so we had to order any drinks for them and receive them then we could hand them to the girls.  Once off the ship in foreign countries (Mexico and Bahamas), all the rules went out the window 😄.

@ceilidh1 thanks for taking us along.  What a fabulous trip!  We, too, love Paradise Beach.  Can’t wait to go back there!

We love Paradise Beach too however I don't think we have ever ordered shrimp and from your pictures I think we have been missing out.

I was eyeing that shrimp too and wanting some.

DS has just discovered shrimp (neither DD nor myself eat seafood outside of fish). He is obsessed. Everything today was shrimp and he said it was fabulous!

Tonight is dress to impress / 70s. I’m not sure those two things go together.

In our other world, both DD and I are so stressed right now as Oasis tickets for their reunion tour in the UK go on sale tomorrow (like 3am in this time zone) and it coincides with our UK trip next summer so we HAVE to get tickets. Apparently they’re as hot as Taylor swift..,

As well they should be.  Who could have imagined they’d get back together again!!

I came back to this! Wow! What a surprise and treat. I definitely was not expecting it, and not necessary but really appreciate the service, follow up, and acknowledgement! Officially impressed! Thank you RC!
