Birth Certificate Question

I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas in June. I was told that I don't need a passport but I'll need my birth certificate. Would I need the long birth certificate or the short one that I carry around in my wallet?

Most likely long form with raised seal plus a picture id such as drivers license.

Also bring state issue id that has a pic of you, like a driver license if you’re over 16.

Make sure you are on a closed-loop cruise! I'd also get a certified copy of your birth certificate. You can contact the state / county where you are born to get one. There's lots of useful information on this government website, you may find it helpful!

If you're talking about the bc card, yes that will work. That's what I used for my son & myself before we got our passports

Any official birth certificate issued by a government agency will work (not one issued by a hospital) for a closed loop cruise.

Of course it is your choice, but just a thought for you. If you are going to go through the "hassle" of getting a BC and being concerned about which one to get (card or long form), a Govt., photo ID, closed loop cruise, etc., just get a passport and avoid any questions/issues and you're good. Stay Safe & Healthy. Enjoy your cruise.🙂

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a passport. You can apply online now, and my understanding the turnaround is pretty fast right now.

If you lost your passport, it would be a hastle, but it would get cancelled easily.

You can't cancel a lost birth certificate.
