Iamthesea Posted April 7, 2006 #26 Share Posted April 7, 2006 I know they are concerned for the cost to us.. We also got the "why are you spending so much money for a cruise" bit...especially when DD would ask us for something she couldn't afford and we told her we couldn't afford to help her. She would respond with "if you wouldn't cruise so much, you would have the money to...!" We have the money, but are not willing to give it to her unless she is really in a bind or something. We have the right to spend OUR money anyway we want. Now, DD is wanting us to spend the money and take them all on another cruise next year. DH said this last cruise was the LAST for the children and they will have to save money if they want another one. I/we are already working on DH for a cruise next spring break. :D I've told the children that they have a full year to save and they can do it if they try. If we booked something now, it would cost them about $500 each to share an inside. That's only $42 a month. Will they do it...probably not!:(
paylady Posted April 7, 2006 #27 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Carol: I was wondering when your son would start pooping out on you but I must say I'm a little surprised with your daughter. My son is a freshman in college and is still going through that separation from Mom phase. Thankfully he's three hours away from home and I don't have that attitude in my face every day. That's okay, because I am going through my separation from David phase and loving it!:p Does this mean I get thrown out of the Jewish Mother's Club? Anyway, I bet you could get any number of us to go with you. Forget the kids! Just don't expect me to keep up with your alcohol consumption; I'm afraid I'm not in your league.:o However, I would be in the Concierge Club every night enjoying my benefits and could definitely keep up with you in the casino. Good luck, kiddo. Marla
JaneStarr Posted April 7, 2006 #28 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Well here's a question... What was the price of your cabin when you booked it, compared to what the cabin would cost if you booked it fresh today? If the price is substantially higher now, and the ship has any sort of a waiting list (especially for the coveted 1688) it makes perfect sense that they would gladly give you a full refund, then turn around and rebook it at the higher price. In fact, if the cabin is more expensive now, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually waited until that was the case, so they would know they weren't going to lose any money on the offer they are making you. If it's lower today then when you booked it, then I have no idea. :) Theron Me thinks you give Customer "Service" too much credit as far as actually having a plan and following through  Jane

Merion_Mom Posted April 7, 2006 Author #34 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Ok, home from work................two weeks vacation, YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........now to respond to everyone: I think you should book an Eastern cruise, so when they change the itinerary to Western you will actually get to go where you want. Now THAT'S funny! Contrarian cruising! Is final payment due 60 days before sailing one of the perks for a diamond class C&A member? I hadn't heard of that one. My final payments for 7-day and longer cruises have always been due 70 days before sail date. I thought it was only 60 days for less than 7-day sailings. You are absolutely correct, kyriecat. But either way, I am STILL more than two full weeks before final payment date. (yes, it's 4/21, not 5/1) Here's why the kids don't want to cruise: We have always cruised together. I cruised without them (I almost typed "alone", but those of you who follow my (mis)adventures know that I wasn't alone!) for the first time this past January on the 4-day Sovereign. I booked this cruise knowing how much we all enjoy this (our only) vacation together. Well, my son is graduating from HS, and doesn't want to be parted from his friends for 10 days! My daughter is VERY serious about her studies these days, and is taking Calculus (4th semester!) and Physics in summer school, because she's a meteorology major, and while this cruise is the end of the school year for ME, it's right in the middle of summer school for her. Thanks, alphakitty! Did your shy hubby ever recover from the unwanted attention? ;) ooooooooooooo me and Rick (Rubbrick) would love too!!I think that Rick will still be in the North Atlantic! But you are welcome! ;) And if Wrona, Nancy, Geri, Bobbie, et al. are AT ALL serious about making this a girls' cruise, email me. Cruise-Nut Posted April 7, 2006 #35 Share Posted April 7, 2006 RCCL customer service at it's best.....again! You have got to be kidding me. If I read that right......It took them a year to call you? So, are you doing the cruise still? I love RCCL customer service. They have been great every time I call them. I am sorry that you must be smart about it.
