On-board Credit

My family and I are sailing on an upcoming west-bound transatlantic voyage on the QM2. Since we sailed on one of her first voyages, which had its share of glitches, Cunard has given us each a daily on-board credit for this trip. Does anyone have experience with Cunard's on-board credit? Does it simply amount to a total figure for the whole trip that you can use at any time during the trip, or must you use up the amount each day--or it will be lost? Thank you!

Ballater,

We were awarded with onboard credit on our recent January 3, 2006 voyage for having been passengers during the QM2's maiden year.

Your onboard credit will be listed in your daily expenditures sheet and deducted from your overall tab at the end of the cruise. The sum is not broken up into daily allowances it is simply applied to the entire trip.

You can use the credit towards anything aboard the ship ie; souvenires, excursions, beverages, everything with the exception of the Casino. If there is anything left over of your credit you will not be able to receive it in cash, so buy another QM2 hat and have a great trip.

We were also on one of the first Caribbean cruises which had a lot of glitches and were given cruise credit which we are using to pay for most of a cruise on the QM2 this December- After paying for the cruise there is still credit left, but we were told that it can't be used towards onboard credit, only towards another cruise and can NOT be used on Carnival- that is what the reservationist told me- Does anyone have any further info or has anyone used the cruise credit also as onboard credit? Thanks

You can call Cunard and do it on the phone or on their website go into voyage planner and guest forms, gift order form and you can fill that out and mail and/or fax it

I believe that you would get your money back although the first (and only so far) time we cruised on the QM2 we had $100 shipboard credit from Cunard and had several hundred dollars worth that we purchased ourselves-at the end of the cruise we still had a credit of around $80 and they did NOT want to refund it as they said it was the portion that Cunard had given us- I contacted customer service and told them, the first $100 I would spend was THEIR money, not mine-end of story is that we got our refund.

However, since then we always try to estimate so we do not have a situation where we have a credit at the end of the cruise- our app. spending per day is around $100 so now I do not have any credits on any cruises of more than $500- at the end of the trip we owe some money, but not that much

If you own 100 shares of CCL (carnival cruise line) you get on board credit every time you cruise plus perks in your cabin.

With Cunard we normally get a credit included in our fare. This Christmas it is something like USD 150.00 each - enough to pay the tips, although for Christmas 2007 it might be a lot less - only USD 25.00 from Cunard (unless you find a generous agent).

Hi,

I have just bought 100 shares in Carnival and informed Cunard regarding our trip departing Oct. 31st. I was aware about the on board credit, but what in cabin perks do you get?

I have read that on other lines you can get the money in cash from the casino less a 3% service charge. I have never done this, so I don't know.

We have $450. Onboard cabin credit coming up since we sailed on the Maiden Caribbean voyage in 2004.

I don't see why you shouldn't - the OBC can be used in whatever way you like. The problem would be that you'd be getting the money at the beginning of your holiday (less the 3%) and then having to pay for you onboard charges at the full amount.

Hi Nickyaddis,

I totally dropped this thread and for that I apologise. The web site for stockholder perks is http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit You have to send in all this requested information well ahead of your cruise. I also ask for them to send me confirmation either via email so I can print it, or to send me a hard copy.

We got some comp. champagne in our cabin, but it's not listed on the web page, so that might have been a one-time thing.

You don't get the credit if you're doing any other deal with your cruise line, which is kind of lame.

I take it this must be another Cunard USA thing? We sailed in March 2004 in the Caribbean (and August 2004 in the Med), and we have not received any on board credit for being there in the maiden season. Is this yet another instance of our US cousins getting a significantly better deal than us?

Many years ago, Cunard had a promotion that gave generous onboard credits for early booking. Nearly everyone on the ship had a credit. Toward the end of the cruise, people were asking for printouts of their balances.

As I stood in line waiting to ask for my balance, I overheard a conversation with a man had a credit for a cancelled tour, plus the onboard from Cunard. The girl at the desk was trying to explain that he would get back HIS money for the tour he bought and couldn't take, but that he would not get back Cunard's money. I almost fainted when the girl said that so far (after 8 or so days) he had spent only $5.00 of his onboard credit.

The last day, I overheard two old dears in the hallway. They were checking their balances, and one said, "Oh, good, I have just enough for a glass of wine at dinner and those nice chocolates in the shop." Apparently, they were trying to spend Cunard's money to the penny, but no extra of their own.

My TA generally gives us an onboard credit. And we have been given an onboard credit as a gift from family members a few times.

You can also secure onboard credits through your travel agent by booking during a special sale week. Their typical offering is $200 OBC per stateroom for 9+ days, $300.00 for grills and $100.00 for 8 or less days plus the second person's first deposit is waived until final payment. Agencys are only allowed so many of these sales per year and they are combinable with almost all other fares including group fares. If you are looking to book I would call your agency to find out when their next Cunard sale week is and book during that week. Hope this helps you all!
