We want a room at the Sheraton Old San Juan pre cruise, 11/13 and 11/14. I've used Priceline several times in the past with great results. I've also gone to betterbidding and I'm not sure I understand. If I do use Priceline and put in 3 1/2 stars, is it possible that I might end up with the Embassy Suites (same star rating) OR the Sheraton Old San Juan? We definitely want to be in Old San Juan so I am a little hesitant about proceeding.

I would like to get the Sheraton Old San Juan for Feb./18-Feb./21/2010, if I do 3.5 will I get it or The Normandie,

Thanks

I have never used priceline or hotwire before and I have been reading tips on how to identify Sheraton Old San Juan. I am looking to stay there Sept. 19-20 and there are only 3 hotels that come up in the San Juan area on hotwire and only one is a 3 star, but does not include a casino or tennis nearby in the amenities. Any advice? TIA

Probably not the Sheraton then. There is another thread on this board on the Sheraton.

You say you want to stay Sept 19-20. I assume your ship leaves Sunday, so one night, Saturday, Sept 19 th.

I put your info into Hotwire, got this..... had to put 1 room with 4 people to get what I believe is SHeraton Old San Juan to come up. Maybe they are sold out of rooms with 1 bed. Anyway, this is the display and icons I saw when I got the Sheraton.... same $$$ also as my night.

(I got this figured out with a whole lot less info than you now have)

No guarantees, but I believe it is the Sheraton.... Good luck if you decide to do it.

I wonder why it won't come up on hotwire with 2 in a room. When I looked on the Sheraton site a few options came up, at a much higher rate of course. I just don't want any problems at check in. What do you think?

When I booked ours, we had 4 persons in 1 room, so it came up. I know there is some sort of a resort fee added on at check-in (I saw a post where someone posted it was $8.95 for Sheraton).

I would say if the rate is significantly less than the direct reservation rate on Sheraton site (which it was for us to the tune of about $200 difference) then go for it. The "might" try to charge you the resort fee for 4 people, but it's still a great savings.

You could always say 2 people cancelled or you hit 4 by mistake instead of 2.

As long as you show up to sleep in the room, to me (my opinion) I don't see it as a big deal, but that's just my opinion...

After all, you are gonna be right in downtown Old San Juan and if you're on Carnival, right across the street. Watch the ship come in in the morning, sit and have breakfast on the patio across from the pier and walk your luggage over when you see people start to arrive to get a place in line to board. Doesn't get much better than that...

Just bid yesterday for resort San Juan area and received the Intercontinental for our pre cruise stay on 2/20/10. I bid $140 and it was accepted.

I stayed there precruise on 2/20/09 and reserved through Priceline - my bid was $150 - so I started $10 lower - maybe I could have gotten it lower, but I'm happy.

I was hoping to get this hotel again

Well, I put in 3 people and scored the Sheraton for $113 before taxes. I called the hotel directly and asked if there would be an issue if only 2 showed up and she said the only way I would have an issue is if more people showed up than what I booked for. I am really happy and I want to thank you for your help. :)

How close to my vacation can I wait to start bidding on Priceline?

Our cruise is the end of September, we want to stay 2 days pre-cruise and 1 day post-cruise. Is there any chance that I might not be able to get rooms if I wait until August?

Thanks

Donna

Depends if you want a specific hotel or not.

If you want a specific place, I wouldn't wait that long...

Date: January 22, 2010

Number of nights: 2 (pre-cruise)

Hotel: Intercontinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino

Rating: Resort

Area: San Juan

Site: Priceline

Winning Bid: $95

Taxes & Service Fees: $30.29

Total: $220.29

Late January is prime time and there will be 5 ships in port this weekend. Wanted to make sure I got a decent deal at a nice resort, which is why I bidded now. Needed two nights pre-cruise.

Lowest price on Intercontinental's website is $273. Very happy with my win. ;)

So true! It'll be 5 ships in port when I leave in January which is why I'm glad I won the Intercontinental this past weekend for $95. :o One less thing to worry about.

My BFF won the same hotel for $91 during the same time, so just fyi.

Hi. Yes, that's a great deal! Click on my AOL review link and scroll to the end where you will see tons of pics of our 4 day post-cruise at the Wyndham and hiking through El Yunque. If you are not already a member, join Wyndham By Request, their frequent stay program, you will get a separate check in line and beverages and snacks of your choice in your room when you arrive, you will also get an upgraded room with a great view. (The pictures in my review are of the room we got for around $120 a night on Skyauction.) You will love the Wyndham and my review has tons of info on all the restaurants in the area.
