Voyager Pod problems

Well, looks like we've also been "Crystalized", we're doing the Dec 6 Tampa-LA via the Panama Canal cruise in lieu of the Dec 4 Voyager. We got the last veranda cabin. Fortunately it is mid-ship, deck 9. Pricey though @ $6k pp., but it is 15 days vs. 7 on Voyager. Cabins are *small* though at 246 sq ft *including* the veranda :-(

We'll be ditching out of our South Beach stay and a couple of other hotel stays due to the extra time on the ship

See you over on the Crystal board I guess

Ragnar, go over to the Crystal board and check out the roll call for your cruise. There are over 60 CC on your itinerary and they will be having a get together plus they're a great group of folks. Sorry your Voyager cruise was cancelled but it sounds like your Crystal cruise will be great.

Thanks, but I just re-analyzed the 15 day trans-canal Crystal cruise we have on hold and I'm not sure I like it. You don't get off the ship in Panama so there are effectively 9 at-sea days out of 15. Plus the six ports of call do not seem very interesting (we live near Mexico) and the stays are quite short at some of them.

So I think we will let this one go and try to find something else a little more adventurous.

Would love to do the PG, but I need to visit family in Florida sometime during early December.

The "plan de moment" is to take Regent up on the offer of the March 13 ten-day Mariner Caribbean sailing in return for the seven-day Dec 4 Voyager sailing, and do a shortened, land-based trip to Florida and maybe the Bahammas next week.

Any suggestions for a 3-4 day Bahamma trip? I hear Atlantis is pretty cool, but looks sort of "touristy"...

Atlantis is very touristy and not worth the price, IMO. It is also a kid magnet. How about one of the Out Islands for a more upscale, personal experience? Eleuthera and Harbor Island are charming and beautiful.

Ragnar we're booked on the March 13th cruise. If you decide, let us know.

Thanks Caviargirl,

Any suggestions for hotels on the out islands? I saw the website of the one called "Pink Sands".

How about a hotel/resort in Nassau/Paradise Island area, in case my DW would rather shop and sightsee than talk romatic walks on deserted beaches....

Let me think about it and I will post ideas tomorrow:).

I have stayed in Harbour Island at Romora Bay Club, Coral Sands, Runaway Hill and enjoyed them all. But, it has been years.

To be honest, I avoid Nassau whenerever possible; it is just not a place I find very charming or appealing. WHen we are there on a cruise, we head straight to Sandals for a day of kid free pools and beaches.:)

The TALK section at fodors.com and also tripadvisor.com are good sources for reviews and recommendations.

My priorities on an island vacation are great beaches, great food, cordial locals, enough to do without being overly commencial and a resort that has as few kids as possible. I don't like family oriented resorts or cruises. Nassau has been ruined - IMO - by cruise ships.

If I had to stay there, I would likely opt for Compass Point:

If you do go, try Greycliff for dinner.

Thanks Caviargirl! We hit upon Sandals last night while looking at options and think we have decided on that, due to the "resort certification" diving program (DW is not certified). How would 5 or 6 days at Sandals in Nassau be? Enough to do nearby to stay occupied? Day trips to Harbor Island, etc. doable?

I am not sure about day trips to Harbour Island as I have always flown from Eleuthera and then you take a taxi and a water ferry. It is not that easy unless things have changed.

The Sandals there is nice and probably one of the better resorts on the island. We like the all inclusives because it is so easy! The pools there are great and beach great for snorkeling and swimming. Food is good with a large choice of restaurants. And the water sports etc. are great for those of us who are active. Really nice gym and fitness options as well; beautiful gardens and we liked the wide age range, as some of the Sandals properties are of the 20 something variety.

We have day tripped there 4 times in the last year and always enjoy the property. You can get to several of the casinos quite easily and it is about $10 to get into town and the main shopping areas. It is also on the public bus line.

Sandals is active enough to provide distractions when wanted and the nightlife is generally good as well, which we really enjoy.

Let us know what you decide! Have a great trip and know that Nassau in december could be chilly, at least for us here in the South. I know I cannot get myself to go in the water that time of year:).

I agree with Caviargal about Nassau; I'll be there in a couple of weeks for a few hours on a cruise, but really I would just use it as a jumping-off point to other places. I wouldn't fly to Eleuthera for the day either, let alone Harbour Island.

I remember there being a good dive program on Harbour Island, but through Valentine's Yacht Club, which is on the non-beach side of the island. But hurricanes have come and gone since I have been there, don't know what the situation would be there now. The snorkelling I remember was really good.

I'm hoping someone here can help me.

We were scheduled on the 4-day cruise tomorrow out of Ft. Lauderdale. Our travel agent notified us of the cancellation on Monday. However, we're having a lot of trouble communicating with her about what we want to do. We did get a very good promotional rate, but so far we have lost $200 on airfare. RSSC has offered to let us re-book on another cruise, but our travel agent did not specify any particular cruise. We picked one late in 2007, and now she seems to be saying that this won't work.

The travel agent has offered us a full refund, but that would still leave us $200 in the hole, and she hasn't mentioned anything about an incentive to re-book later with RSSC. However, on this board I'm reading that other people are being offered an incentive.

I'm getting really frustrated with our travel agent, and have even offered to talk directly with RSSC myself. I guess I'm just wondering what everyone else is doing. For those of you who have re-booked on another cruise, what date did you re-book for? What guidelines were you given for re-booking? Thanks for any help!

Yes, Valentines is a very cool dive resort with great snorkeling as well.

I have not been there since the storms but would love to get back one day. Could be 12-11 if Voyager burps again:).

Start a post with that title as I know esther e was in the same situation and they offered her a great incentive on a March cruise. I am sure she will respond.
