wizard-of-roz Posted January 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2007 I can't seem to find this information  ......are there refrigerators in the staterooms onboard the Oosterdam? I know it's such a silly question.....but, I need to know! Okay, I'll lay down and you can "wag" your finger at me!!!!!! However, "Yes" or "No" would really suffice!;)
SanDiego Single Posted January 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2007 Wow its sad you have to say that huh. Not all staterooms have fridges. But if it doesn't I understand you can rent one for $2 dollars a day.
RuthC Posted January 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2007 The answer to the original question is "yes". Here's the breakdown: On S- and R-class ships there's a fridge in the PH, S-suite, and mini-suite (veranda) cabins. Anyone else can rent one for a small charge; have your TA put in the request well in advance. On Vista-ships all cabins have a fridge. I don't know about the Prinsendam. :o
sandiegojoe Posted January 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2007 Our balcony stateroom had a 'fridge, but it was a mini-bar type of thing. Full of sodas & such. We had ours locked on this trip, but I have found that sometimes the cabin steward will empty it for you if you ask (or tip him).
RuthC Posted January 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2007 Thank you, Robin. I figure that sometimes people don't know how to search. Sometimes they know they've asked the question, but don't remember where, and don't know how to go back and find out. And some people have short-term memory problems and might not remember that they even asked in the first place! It's just as easy to give the answer again as it is to make a big deal out of it. In other words, sometimes it's just easier to throw a fish at someone as it is to teach 'em how to fish! :D
nana50 Posted January 6, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2007 People have been very helpful to me on this board, but it would have been easier to just say "yes" or "no". If the answer is more complicated tell them it is more complicated than a yes or no answer and give them a link. Sometimes these links require a ton of scrolling or reading to get your answer and Ruth is right, it can often be easier to throw the fish (and maybe a link too). Seago2 Posted January 6, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2007 Can someone explain to me why anyone would want to increase post counts? Does that mean I'm kinda like a sophomore right now, and Ruth C is a... senior? I can't wait until I get back and post my review! I might end up in grad school before I've answered "70% wore tuxes on formal night" for the 500th time. If anyone is going to sit and criticize the OP for asking a dumb question (first of all, look where we all are! Is this the New England Journal of Medicine New and Emerging Infectious Diseases site?) I dare you to go to the Carnival board and ask the following questions: What will I do with my duct tape? Can I bring a cooler with wheels filled with Wal-Mart soda? What should I put in my over the door shoe holder, besides pens, flashlights, walkie talkies, miniature battery operated fans, insecticide, 8 rolls of quarters, diaper wipes, purell, a bee sting kit and highlighters? Am I allowed to let my 12 year old ride an elevator alone? What does "Formal Night" mean? DH isn't "formal." Can he wear jeans? Dressy jeans? Jeans with a Nascar logo? Black jeans? Ripped or torn jeans? Khaki colored jeans?  HELP NEDED ASAPP! GLORY ARIL 2008 OV GUAR OK??  See, it could always be worse. I'm thankful for all of the repetitive questions for a number of reasons, one of them being that they actually teach me things that might be important one month and unimportant another. serendipity1499 Posted January 6, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 6, 2007 Why do Vista ships have refridgerators in each stateroom... for the sodas you smuggle on board...or the deserts you bring down from the Lido ??? On HAL people don't smuggle soda on board...Everyone is permitted to bring all the soda, wine, champagne & botled water that you wish...The steward will even clean out the fridge so you can put your own wine/champagne/soda & bottled water in it..If you want to have your wine served at dinner then HAL will charge a $15.00 corkage fee..The only restriction is hard liquor is not permitted to be brought on board for consumption! I'm also happy to answer questions many times over & over, as I've forgotten many of the answers over the years..Not everyone who posts on this board has an excellent memory..As we get older we tend to forget more & more..The search engine does not always work for posts that are weeks or months old...Each Poster can program the save/search function to whatever they want..ie 7 days etc. In my case I have 30 days & cannot find any post that is more than a month old... billsrobb Posted January 6, 2007 #10 Share Posted January 6, 2007 I am new to the HAL board. I spend my time on the Carnival BB. I am sailing on the Volendam in Nov and I have a few questions. What type of ship is this? Vista or what? Does this ship have live poker such as texas hold-em? I am sure I will have many others. Robb

TheHappyWanderer Posted January 6, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 6, 2007 They ask all those questions only on the Carnival board? I see them on the Disney board all the time, and also on Princess. So I guess the questions must be pretty universal.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 6, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 6, 2007 billsrobb Yes the Volendam has a table in the corner for Texas Hold'em. It isn't played all the time. Check your daily program for the times the table will be open.

RevNeal Posted January 6, 2007 #15 Share Posted January 6, 2007 Our cheap inside cabin on the Vista class Zuiderdam had no refrigerator last March. Hmmm ... I wonder if it had been removed for some reason. On Vistas all Inside Cabins are supposed to have them. I've been in inside Js on the Vistas on 3 occasions and had a fridge each time. Ruth's answer is the correct one.
niborHS Posted January 6, 2007 #16 Share Posted January 6, 2007 Carla, you are a riot, love your post. Especially the part about the Walmart soda. Our 2nd cruise was on Carnival. We just loved watching people in their tanks tops, with all the tatoos when it wasn't the hot thing, drinking beer at 9 am, then there were the men. I've been in inside Js on the Vistas on 3 occasions and had a fridge each time. Ruth's answer is the correct one. The four of us were in cabin 6071. The kids confirm that there was no refrigerator. We wouldn't have used it. The cabin wasn't a place to hang out and relax in, there was not enough room to swing a cat. We needed the 1.5 cubic feet for other things. bruce-r Posted January 7, 2007 #23 Share Posted January 7, 2007 Why do Vista ships have refrigerators in each stateroom... for the sodas you smuggle on board...or the deserts you bring down from the Lido ??? No, the refrigerators are there because they are really a mini-bar and just like at hotels, all the stuff in them is for sale. They are in all the cabins because they are a source of revenue. We asked our steward to remove all the mini-bar items so we could use the empty refrigerator.

Leaving on the Oosterdam on 1/27 and now I'm worried that it's going to be a bunch of snobs looking down their noses at me, who happened to enjoy my Carnival, NCL and RCCL cruises. I'd go on any one of them again before I joined the old snobs we sailed with on Celebrity, where even the crew seemed to think they were above us. Don't get me wrong, we're not a bunch of back-woods hilljacks but even if we were... everyones money works the same and everyone deserves to have a good time, whatever that might mean to them. jtl513 Posted January 7, 2007 #25 Share Posted January 7, 2007 Naaaaah, you're worrying needlessly! Do people who post on this board sound like snobs to you? We're the same ones you'll find on the ships! I haven't met a snob on four HAL cruises. And the crews are always friendly ... with the possible exception of the Pinnacle waiters! :D
