Aussie Gal Posted January 31, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2007 My DH and self have just returned home after a magical day. We were the privileged guests of Captain Stephen Card ( Prinsendam) on board the lovely Statendam for lunch. We met Stephen at 11am and after getting clearance from Security we went on board this lovely ship. After showing us some of the special features of the ship we went to the Ocean Bar and had a pre lunch drink before going to the Pinnacle for a wonderful lunch. The Pinnacle was especially opened for the 3 of us and what a delicious lunch we had starting off with a great French champagne, and finally finishing with a good cappuchino coffe. Three wonderful waiters looked after us as well as the Maitre'd of the Pinnacle, Peter Allan whom we were pleased to see again so soon as he was the Maitre'd of the Pinnacle on the Veendam, when we were on her in September/October. Stephen was a wonderful host and we did enjoy having the ship almost to ourselves as everyone seemed to be out and about enjoying our wonderful weather and our lovely city. It was great to catch up with Stephen and we hope we will be seeing him again in the not too distant future. Jennie
hammybee Posted January 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2007 How special. How fortunate you, DH and Prinsendam were able to have lunch like this, with each other, especially with one on one PG service. It's one for the pleasant memory book, for sure. dakrewser Posted January 31, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2007 What a wonderful experience, Jennie - especially in this day of seeing services being cut right and left. And thanks for sharing it with us.
Aussie Gal Posted January 31, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Stephen is very well. Unfortunately Ruth was not with him this time. He and Ruth are looking forward to their next voyage which will be on the Saga Ruby which sails from Sydney to Barcelona in March. From there he will sail on one of the big Q's for 3 weeks before going to Bermuda for our winter. A wonderful way to spend one's life. Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted January 31, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Oh Jennie, How wonderful:) That sounds like such a delightful way to spend the day. Although I am sure just a bit sad to have to leave knowing that you could not stay on but a few hours on a DAM ship is better than none at all:D
RuthC Posted January 31, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2007 What a nice way to "do lunch". Wouldn't it be nice if we all had such an opportunity? Thanks for letting us all have a chance to be envious. ;)
Aussie Gal Posted February 1, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Ruth, You are so right. It was a great way to "do lunch" and in such lovely surroundings. We know how lucky we were to be on board as Security here is very strict and I think we were the only visitors on board. Thank you Stephen. bepsf Posted February 1, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Jennie-- What a treat! Peter Allan is one of HAL's best Pinnacle Maitre'd's - Enjoyed meeting him when he was on Oosterdam. Glad you were able to enjoy a lovely afternoon aboard Statendam.
