jetracing Posted August 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2004 This may be a strange question, but here goes. When you have a bottle of wine in your cabin, what do you drink it out of? I have only been on one cruise and had a bottle of wine in our room. We drank out of the glasses in the cabin. For some reason it just did not feel very festive. BaumD Posted August 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2004 If you ask your cabin steward, he/she would probably bring you a few wine glasses. Option 2, if you buy a glass of wine at one of the bars, take it back to your room and keep it in a drawer for the week (the glass not the wine). Folgy Posted August 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2004 One quick call and you will have wine glasses.(room service)
Tromler Posted August 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2004 Baum D...you had me laughing, I was picturing someone keeping the same glass of wine in a drawer for a week and taking a swig from it.....
Beelady Posted August 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We just wallked into the nearest bar on embarkation day, told the bartender that we had a bottle of wine from our TA and could we please have 2 wine glasses, which he gladly supplied us with. Merion_Mom Posted August 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2004 That's what I did, when I had a bottle of champagne to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I strolled into the Champagne Bar, asked for three champagne flutes, the nice bartender gave them to me, and off I went to my cabin to pop the cork. jetracing Posted August 5, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Thank you for the help. I thought that you would have to order a bottle from room service in order to get glasses.
Alexis Posted August 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Every time I got a nice glass to drink out of from one of the bars the cabin attendant took it. :( I even tried to hide it under the night stand behind things. It was gone. :( I finally went to the gift shop and bought my own. At least I got to bring it home.:)
Merion_Mom Posted August 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Every time I got a nice glass to drink out of from one of the bars the cabin attendant took it. :( I even tried to hide it under the night stand behind things. It was gone. :( I finally went to the gift shop and bought my own. At least I got to bring it home.:) I guess this was the ONE advantage to our having a LOUSY cabin steward on our last cruise. He never refilled the ice, he never cleaned the balcony, he never gave us CC invitation or C&A booklet, he never brought our bill on the last night..............but he never took our champagne glasses away! (By the way, for those who read and chime in on threads about "Should we pre-tip our cabin steward?" - we gave him a HUGE up-front tip. Didn't work. While most RCCL stewards are fantastic, the lousy ones are lousy no matter what the financial incentive is) Carol
RM Posted August 5, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I had a steward who would constantly take my glass too! Probably the same one you had LOL! I just asked them to leave it until the end of the cruise and he did. No problem after that.
birdie16 Posted August 5, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We rinse out our glasses and put them in the medicine cabinet behind the mirror...never lost one yet! As for where we got our wine glasses, we have brought them from home, bought wine and brought the glasses back to our room and asked the cabin steward..all worked. pelletib Posted August 5, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Our stewards were waiting at each end of the corridor to introduce themselves and escort us to our cabins. Thought it was a nice touch. They asked if there were any special requests and we requested 4 wine glasses. They were thoughtfully replaced on a daily basis whether we used them or not. I do not smoke, but DH and our friends in the next cabin do and I noticed that the ashtrays in both cabins were cleaned and put out on the balcony the next morning. They got the subtle hint to please smoke outside if possible. I always carry a small spray can of a nuetralizing room spray so made sure that each evening when DH smoked a cig or two while reading, we could spritz the air. I am a very tidy person and tried to keep their work down to a minimum. I always remake the beds because of how the bottom sheet does not quite go all the way down. (drives 6'3'' hubby crazy) so I request that they only change sheets midweek.
gambler Posted August 5, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We bring wine for the room, on the first day just let the steward know how many wine glasses you need and that you want fresh ones each day. We got ours within the next 15 minutes.
Alexis Posted August 5, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I will try some of the tips you have given me on how to keep the glasses.:D My cabin steward was Mrs. Clean. I have always been lucky enough to have good ones. One of them did not bring our invite to some things like the Meet and Mingle, and no gifts for sailing many times with them, but very good in other ways. I just had to ask at the pursers for the invites to the special parties, etc.
Travelgrrl Posted August 5, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I sometimes bring a couple fancy but sturdy acrylic wine or champagne glasses.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted August 5, 2004 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2004 As a big time wine smuggler, I can tell you from experience that we gather with friends we travel with every evening after we dress in our or their cabin and drink wine. We tell our steward that we want such and such bottle chilled or not and how many glasses we need. They are always there waiting for us when we get ready to dress before dinner. We do this everyday. The wine glasses are replaced with clean ones and the ice bucket is refreshed the next day for our next bottle of champagne. Sometimes on the first day we have to make do with water glasses, but never after that. jc:D
