The 2007 FAQ from the Royal Caribbean Travel Agent Guide

Recommended Posts

Here’s the 2007 Royal Caribbean Travel Agent Guide’s FAQ!!! My apologies for taking so long in getting it typed out. I don’t know how much, if any, it differs from last year’s. I don’t have the two side by side to compare, and I’m typing this out while I don’t have internet access at work. Therefore, I apologize if it’s all redundant. LOL I also apologize if there’s some weird stuff in here from copying and pasting from Microsoft Word. If you disagree with any of this, don’t complain to me about it. Newbie to RCI.... Elite on Princess.....EggDropErin....thanks for the posting, I really appreciate it but might not follow all of it:)

Regarding the iron and ironing board...............is there somewhere on board that I can press out the wrinkles? If not, then I'm bringing my travel iron.

Next question...........how much is the laundry service? I'm use to doing a load of laundry the middle of the week and not bringing so many clothes with me when I've been on Princess. I'm really going to miss that.

Next question..........I read somewhere that robes aren't supplied until you've cruised xxxx times. Is that right?

Next question.........anyone ever rolled a suitcase on board with their own beer (yes a suitcase dedicated to beer)? I know this alcohol issue has been beaten to death, but my DH likes to be able to get a beer out of the fridge.

Thanks in advance!

No, there is no place to iron on the ship and travel irons are not allowed, as they are a fire hazard. The pressing service on the ship is VERY fast and VERY good (and really not expensive)...just have your steward take it all the first night and you will have it by the next evening.

Next question...........how much is the laundry service? I'm use to doing a load of laundry the middle of the week and not bringing so many clothes with me when I've been on Princess. I'm really going to miss that.
Never done laundry through the ship, just pressing or dry cleaning, which is very reasonable.

Next question..........I read somewhere that robes aren't supplied until you've cruised xxxx times. Is that right?
Robes are generally supplied for suites or certain levels of past cruisers, but you can certainly request them from your stateroom attendant. If they are available, you should be able to get them.

Next question.........anyone ever rolled a suitcase on board with their own beer (yes a suitcase dedicated to beer)? I know this alcohol issue has been beaten to death, but my DH likes to be able to get a beer out of the fridge.

Not EVEN worth trying. It will not be allowed. Some people do try to smuggle in alcohol in checked bags, with varying success, but trying to bring a suitcase full of beer in a carry-on is just asking to be busted.

Bicycles

Q: Can I bring a bicycle onboard?

A: No.

Twice now, when on a trip, we have had a guest with a bike. They kept in the room. One had a 2nd floor outside room the other an inside room.

The one set we talked to them and they said they ALWAYS take theirs and ride in port (San Juan trip we were on). The other was a trans trip and we did not talk to those people. Always call the company and ask them if you can do something just in case you can. You may have to fill out a ton of paper work to do it but just like this I know it has been done (TWICE) and not the same people each time.

While I´ve seen bikes onboard many times it has always been crew having these. (Counting entertainers, lecturers, etc. as crew in this instance):)

Thanks everyone for the info. You're right, I should have done my homework before posting. I have such a hard time getting the Royal Caribbean website to load, sometimes it's just easier to ask those of you that have cruised with them.

As I read these posts, I'm starting to realize we may have made a mistake booking Royal Caribbean. There have been many posts about Princess nickel and dimeing you but with the rules about laundry, irons and the chance of being "busted" because I want to bring a 12pack aboard, I think that RCI is the one nickel and dimeing me.

If beer was more affordable, then I would have no problem buying it on the ship and putting it in my cabin but the cruise line (and not just RCI) seems to want to stick it to you, especially with alcohol.

"Madforcruising", to answer your question, "No, some rules don't apply when they're just plain stupid." I would reconsider the travel iron and just wear wrinkled clothes. Heavens, I wouldn't want to be responsible for a fire and hurt others, but I'm not backing down on the alcohol issue. They can just "bust" me.

So thanks for lettimg me know. I always wondered who would be the one to decide if a rule is stupid or not:rolleyes:

Q: Can I end my cruise vacation at a port other than the final port listed on the itinerary?

A: No.

This differs from the information on the Royal Caribbean website:

Q: Can I take a partial cruise?

A: Yes! Partial cruises allow you to enjoy part of your cruise vacation in the event that you are unable to meet the ship in the scheduled boarding port, or would like to end your cruise earlier than the scheduled departure date.

Requests for security clearance concerning late boarding or early departure must be submitted in writing to the Guest Flight Operations office for consideration at least one week prior to sail date. Guests must have a confirmed reservation in order to receive clearance. If the reservation was made by a travel agency, the agency must submit the request on travel agency letterhead. Guests with reservations made directly through Royal Caribbean International or royalcaribbean.com can submit their own request. Please include a return fax number or e-mail address.

If guests are pre-approved for boarding/departure in an alternate port of call, the ship's security staff is notified to expect the guests at the designated port. The approved guests are responsible for making all travel arrangements and will incur any additional expenses (for flights, hotels, transfers to the pier, etc.). Prepaid gratuities will be added to all approved reservations for the length of cruise.

Restrictions: Certain countries, such as the U.S., Italy and Norway, have cabotage laws affecting passenger movements. These laws restrict foreign flag passenger vessels (such as those operated by Royal Caribbean) from transporting guests from one port to another port in the same country. In the U.S., the cabotage law applicable to the cruise industry is commonly called the Jones Act but is legally titled the Passengers Services Act. A brief summary of this U.S. law follows:

If a passenger (as listed on a vessel passenger manifest) embarks in a U.S. port and the vessel calls in a nearby foreign port (such as Ensenada, Grand Cayman and Nassau) and then returns to the U.S., the person must disembark in the same U.S. port. A passenger who embarks and disembarks in two different U.S. ports (such as Los Angeles and San Diego) would result in the carrier (not the violator) being fined. The vessel must call in a distant foreign port before the U.S. embarkation and disembarkation ports can differ. The nearest distant foreign ports are in or off the coast of South America. If either the passenger's embarkation port or disembarkation port is in a foreign country, then the provisions of this cabotage law do not apply. Nor do they apply in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Similar passenger movement restrictions exist for cruise vessels calling in Italy and Norway.

Newbie to RCI.... Elite on Princess.....EggDropErin....thanks for the posting, I really appreciate it but might not follow all of it:) Next question.........anyone ever rolled a suitcase on board with their own beer (yes a suitcase dedicated to beer)? I know this alcohol issue has been beaten to death, but my DH likes to be able to get a beer out of the fridge.

Thanks in advance!

1. Beer is not particularly overpriced. If the price of beer is the deciding factor as to whether or not you can cruise, I doubt that either RC or Princess is in your budget. (I am aware that that sounds rather harsh, but I am reacting to exactly what you posted)

2.There is a world of difference between what you posted in your first post and in your second. In your first, you speak of rolling an entire suitcase filled with beer on board. In the second, you mention a 12-pack. Universes apart.

If you REALLY want to try to smuggle your 12 pack on board, wrap it thoroughly in bubble wrap, put it in a giant ziploc bag (you can buy these in places like Costco and BJs), and put it with your softest clothes in the middle of your suitcase which you CHECK, not carry on with you.

By the way, Princess does not allow you to "roll an entire suitcase of beer" on board, either.

I beg to differ....I've seen it every time I cruised on Princess out of Galveston. Not only 'entire suitecases of beer' but people with cases, yes CASES of wine being rolled on.

Ok, point to Texas. They didn't let anyone do this in NY last summer.

Thanks everyone for the info. You're right, I should have done my homework before posting. I have such a hard time getting the Royal Caribbean website to load, sometimes it's just easier to ask those of you that have cruised with them.

You can take a steamer with no problems ... they do not start fires and usually shut off it turned on their side ... they work very well

This is very helpful information, and has brought about some questions due to upcoming first cruise:

- I assume that the pillows provided are those foamy kind...?... to request another type, is this just done after boarding?

- I also read somewhere about those eggcrate matress toppers being available, are those also requested after boarding?

- In regards to the inline skating, I'm kind of assuming skates can be rented (no charge?) rather than having to bring some along?

Thanks much!

1)You're right, it does sound rather harsh but I understand. I am not in the habit of giving money away for overpriced items (i.e.beer or anything else).

We almost always book a mini suite so RC and Princess are in our budget.

2) Yes, you can roll an ENTIRE suitcase of beer on board on Princess....been there done that several times:D.

I'm opting out of this particular post. Thank you for your information and your thoughts.

The fact that you have rolled an ENTIRE suitcase of beer onboard on Princess doesn't necessarily translate into it being permitted by the cruiseline. To each his own, but I have never found the drink prices to be any more overpriced on any cruiseline than at most land-based bars, restaurants and lounges.
