Can I really request cash in the casino?

I've read that you can request cash in the casino and have it charged to your Sea Pass card. I'm trying to encourage my husband not to take much cash on our trip, and if this is possible, he might feel more comfortable.

1. How do you do it?

2. How much can you ask for?

3. Can you use it for your own personal things (off ship, etc.)? or only in the casino?

Reading to leave THURSDAY!

We did.

Just go up to the cashier and ask for a cash advance.

Tell them the amount you want.

Sign your seapass receipt.

and away you go, although you should drop a couple coins in the slots.

Just so you know the ATM on the Mariner charges $5.50 per transaction so this is a great alternative.

Have a great trip

Cathy

Just bring your seapass to the casino and go up and ask for say 200$, I always ask for 10's and 20's. Do NOT tell them you are not going to gamble. If for some reason they do ask say the slots. The limit is very high sometime like 2000$ a day!

Very easy!

Once you get it, it's your money to do with as you wish. But don't forget--you'll have to pay it back sometime!!!!!

We've never needed to get an advance--we just bring the cash we think we'll need--if we don't use it, we take it home and put it back in the bank!

Credit cards work for most larger store purchases in ports, but "straw market" type vendors sometimes only take cash.

You can bring larger bills and get them broken down on the ship--less bulky to carry quantities of cash.

Don't they charge a fee for getting cash and having it assigned to your SeaPass card?

No. That's the beauty of it. It is simply charged to your SeaPass, which you then pay off with your chosen credit card, and get all the points/benefits therefrom!

There is no fee for the casino cash advance service...they want to make it as easy as possible to make a deposit at the casino:D They do not monitor what you do with the money, however, so you can use it for whatever you please. If you pay off your Seapass account using an RCI Visa, you not only get an short-term interest free loan (with no cash advance fees), but you also get double points on your card. But like an earlier poster mentioned...you DO have to pay it off sometime:(. We bring very little cash from home, and get our cash to use in ports from the casino.

We leave the cash in the bank, all the monies we estimate we will spend on the cruise, and then pay it off as soon as the bill comes. Great way to build up those double points on the ship.

P.S. See you on the 46 day on Mariner.

I just read in the last day or two, but sorry I can't remember the thread, where someone never went to the casino to get money on the seapass until the last night and were basically refused. They were told that they couldn't get the money because it was for casino use only.

I know many people get money all week in the casino and spend some/all of it in there so I guess the casino has a way to know if you have gotten money earlier in the cruise.

I think it's a great way to build up points on your card, but I have also read, don't know if it is true or not, but money withdrawn at the casino doesn't get the double points other RCI transactions get.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

No, the money is put through as a regular transaction on to your seapass card just like you purchased something in one of the shops or similar. I got double points for everything including the 400$ I took from the casino.

I always get the max amount allowed by the casino per day ($2000.00) and stick it in the safe each night. At the end of a 7 day cruise I have accumulated 14000 miles on my Skymiles card, and that is almost good enough for a free flight. I deposit the 14000 the day I get back home, so no worry about paying back the credit card. The casino, will, on occasion refuse to give out $ on the last night of the cruise, as people just use this as a way to bypass the pursars office to get cash for tips, because the line is shorter.

You are telling us that you carry $14,000 in CASH with you off the ship???

How do I put this?

ARE YOU INSANE?!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!

Ok, I got that out of my system.

But other than it being an insanely risky thing to do, you DO realize that it is illegal to carry more than $10,000 cash into the United States without declaring it on your customs form?

Isnt it $10,000 per PERSON and not per cabin? So unless they are cruising single, would it still be illegal if they say its both of theirs? Just wondering

That is if you pay in a lump sum of 10K at one time. You can send payment of $9999.99 30 times a month and the form is not required.

As for the cash at the casino, I have seen a man on the Liberty being refused cash on the 4th day of the cruise. He was told he did not use the cash in the casino. Most likely he got cash prior to the day I was behind him in line at the casino cashier booth, (the Liberty has monitors on their machines to see if you are playing slots) and there are ways of tem knowing if you are spending that cash in the casino. Someone else posted, a player at a blackjack table tried to get cash and was refused. I never had a problem getting cash, but then again I spend it at the casino and then some!

Easy to get cash and as long as you have no limit on your CC...you can do 2 grand a day!! I know you can with American Distress!!

Been there, done that and done with that!! Never did come back with the 14 grand either so never had to figure out how to smuggle it back home!!

I wouldn't know how the casino would know if you weren't spending your cash there...????

Hi fellow cruisers:

Read post and saw many that surfaced about six years ago. Many people were going in getting good size amount of chips waiting a short time and going back and checking them in. Got all your money back, the double points on your card, frequent flyer, cruise miles, . It was a great. Some people did this 4 or 5 times a day.Well most of the lines got wise and now add on a service fee. The casino casheir was also the place to go to get cash when you had to pay tips in cash, instead of the long purser's line. Check the limit on sign and sail, and inquire about service fee so you don't get burnt. Been there, done that, years ago.

I was just on Voyager in June and asked for 500. The cashier asked where I was going to use it, and once I answered the slots she gave it to me without a problem. I was not charged any type of service fee.

I've done it on previous cruises when somehow I have blown my budget by day four.

Hope this helps!:)

What denominations do you take this money in? Do I have to tell them? I don't want to look foolish, but we never use the casino.
