If you decide not to dress on formal night and have a nice dinner in your room does that prohibit you from the ship the rest of the evening? We are in an owners suite and have full menu for our room. We are just thinking this would be a nice evening but might want to get out and play later. Need some imput please.

I can't remember if Princess suggests this. Royal Caribbean did on our last cruise but we saw many in dress down clothes. I really don't think it matters for the rest of the ship. We are on the Crown on Sat and will check it out!!

We saw lots of folks dress casually around the ship on formal night both early and late, so I'm guessing they were either eating in the buffet or in their room. Dress as you will - you won't be alone by any means

On formal night, we always dash back to our cabin and change before the show anyways.

Princess formal night dress code applies specifically to the dining rooms. Most people do stayed formally dressed for the entire evening, but you won't be the only ones in casual attire if choose to venture out on formal nights.

If you read your patter, it will say the dress code is for the evening and not specifically for the dining room, however some passengers do not pay attention to this suggestion and return to their rooms to change into a more casual attire.

When I posted I was pretty sure this was the case and have seen most change too!

A dinner in the OS sounds great! Personally, I would give my wife flowers for the table, a bottle of wine, and a small piece of jewelry for the evening. Then I would enjoy getting out and strolling the ship in my smart casual clothes. (Maybe you could do this for your husband; that would be a nice turn of roles and maybe a bit of a surprise)

I do wear either my tuxedo or dress blues for formal night; but usually go back to the cabin and change after dinner. It is much more comfortable and no one has stoned me yet!

Have a great cruise.

My husband and I once decided against dressing for formal night. We didn't even pack our formal clothes, but we did pack some nice black slacks and a dress shirt/blouse so we could go to the entertainment later in the evening. You could do this and not worry about not fitting in.

That worked well for that time, but all-in-all we have found that dressing for formal night dining and staying dressed in formal clothes is what we enjoy most.

Have a wonderful cruise!

If I go to the dining room I'll dress up and then change down after, otherwise I get dinner in my suite and then go out in casual clothes... usually to walk up on deck and then maybe a little casino.

Bottom line... you're free to dress pretty much as you please after the evening's dining. Do what's right for YOU...

I'm not taking issue with your statement, it's just that I'm not sure what the point is of having the entire evening formal as long as casual dining options are offered and those people are out and about. It really is difficult to maintain the formal dress code for the entire ship since many people elect to skip the dining room and eat in the buffet.

And now with MUTS...the only movie we wanted to see last cruise happened to be on formal night, so we rushed to our cabins after dinner and changed into relaxing clothes for that. No way were any of us going to lay on a lounge chair in the chilly night air, eating popcorn, in our formal wear!

We did not find this true on the Crown in June- Most people changed after dinner, I mean we are on vacation get comfy!! :D

Enjoy!

I doubt if you would be the only ones not dressed up to the nines on formal night. Many people either skip the dining room that night and go to the buffet, or else go to their cabin after dinner and change to more comfy clothes. If I have time after the late seating, I would change so my legs won't be cold and go check out the entertainment.

I don't think Princess intended that people who eat dinner in the Horizon Court to hustle back to their cabin and stay there the rest of the night.

Finding this to be TRUE LESS AND LESS. Last cruise I took I'd say about 40% stayed dressed. On my upcoming cruise I'll see if the trend to dress down after dinner holds true.

We are just back from the Crown and saw people dressed in all different attire. We did attend the formal dinner and then went to the casino where we saw others in jeans. Apparently, anything goes. If I were staying in for my dinner, I would just go out wearing something casual, but I would not choose jeans because there are so many others still in evening clothes and I would not feel comfortable, but that is a personal choice. I don't think there is a wrong answer here since Princess does not seem to make an issue of it.

I can understand some people not wanting to dress formally, although we find it one of the best parts of our cruise. What I don't understand is why you would want to change after dinner. If you went to the trouble to pack formal attire, wouldn't you want to wear it as much as possible to justify the space and weight it took up in your suitcase? By changing, you now need two outfits for one night.

Maybe they just like to dress for the pictures like us. Then head back and change into our comfy clothes and off to the casino:D Different strokes for different folks.

I've not been stoned either. All formal nights, dress up including hair and makeup then after dinner and a stroll return to the cabin into something more casual and hit the casino. I do see many, however not the majority of passengers that stay dressed for the evening, that's not for me though and like I said, haven't been stoned yet either. One of the things I like about Princess.
