LovesCruisin Posted September 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2004 I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to all those that were in the path of Hurricane Ivan. I too have emailed Mandoo and offered him my thoughts and prayers. Lets just hope that the people on this gorgeous Island nation can overcome any of the obstacles that the hurricane brought to them. Coolmama_1 Posted September 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2004 I saw pictures today on the Today show and it was devastating. We were in Grenada in July and enjoyed the island very much. Our prayers also go out to all in the path of Ivan
Wksskier Posted September 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2004 I saw photos of Grenada on the news today. The destruction was unbelieveable. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this terrible hurricane. Carole =^..^=
Coolmama_1 Posted September 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Thanks for the information. We were in Grenada in July and it was one of our favorite islands. It was heartbreaking to see the devastation.

tispwisp Posted September 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2004 I have not... :( We were supposed to stop there in November on the Sun and we were going to do a tour with him. However, with the devastation in Grenada, it is doubtful we will be stopping there. He said he would email me as soon as they had power back, but have not heard from him... joyride Posted September 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2004 On a recent thread I read that his home was destroyed, but Mandoo is OK. I can't remember where I read it (?) We are supposed to go to Grenada on the Constellation Thanksgiving week and have not heard if it is cancelled or not.
phabric Posted September 27, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2004 Has there been any damage from hurricanes for Tortola, or Virgin Gorda?
phoenixlady Posted September 27, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2004 I haven't heard of any damage and as of yesterday (Sunday),Tortola is still one of the ports of calls of NCL's Spirits S. Caribbean 9 day cruise.

TERTOG Posted October 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 3, 2004 Thanks. It sounds like we might make it to Grenada after all.
new_cruiser Posted October 15, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 15, 2004 I'm booking a cruise for December in the Southern Caribbean considering a couple of itineraries. Both visit islands between Barbados and Puerto Rico. A friend suggested that the snorkeling might not be so good right now due to hurricane damage to the reefs. Of course, the news reports have centered on the land damage to the main islands. Does anyone know how whether there was much underwater damage in this area? wieslaw Posted October 25, 2004 #14 Share Posted October 25, 2004 I saw this information on another board: Author: cruising rev Date: 10-18-04 13:02 I just received the following information from the Grenada tourism board Grenada's 2004 winter cruise ship season will begin on October 26, 2004 when the Norwegian Spirit docks with 3,100 passengers. The following day, October 27 will see a similar visit from Golden Princess. The Government and people of Grenada are proud of the fact that after the devastation caused by Ivan on September 7, 2004, we can see the return of cruise ships that quickly. With best wishes, Sincerely yours, Edwin Frank PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER Post Edited (10-18-04 13:22) I hope this answers your question. fraidycats Posted October 25, 2004 #15 Share Posted October 25, 2004 If the island was devasted by hurricane, how can they possibly be prepared for tourists?
Cruise2End Posted October 25, 2004 #16 Share Posted October 25, 2004 Our ship was supposed to go to Grenada on 11/16 (Princess Sun) but we received official word we are going to Dominica instead.
fraidycats Posted October 26, 2004 #17 Share Posted October 26, 2004 I just read where many of the hotels will not be opening until February at the earliest, I can't imagine why any cruise line would bring passengers to "visit" for vacation... EileenN Posted October 26, 2004 #18 Share Posted October 26, 2004 Our Docs say we are going to St. Vincent instead of Grenada, but the website is now relisting Grenada as our port on the Dawn sail of Nov7th. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has been there recently.
Shir Hayam Posted October 26, 2004 #19 Share Posted October 26, 2004 We're on the Constellation sailing December 4th. Celebrity is still saying that they are stopping in Grenada. But the Sunday Travel Section in the Boston Globe indicated that the State Department still has a travel warning issued for Grenada. I can't imagine that it will be a pleasant place to visit, unfortunately, even if the warning is lifted. With 90% of the buildings destroyed, I'd guess it's going to take a very long time for them to recover. Sheila
joyride Posted October 26, 2004 #20 Share Posted October 26, 2004 I just got my cruise docs today for the 11/20 Connie cruise on Celebrity and Grenada is listed as a stop. I'm just not sure if I want to spend time there right now. I have been there before and really enjoyed it, but this time I may make it a "Stay on the Ship" day. It's not that I don't want to support the people there, but at the same time I really don't want to tour around looking at the devistation. We have almost 40 cruise critics on our trip and right now we are all taking a "wait and see" attitude.
curiousx Posted October 26, 2004 #21 Share Posted October 26, 2004 The forum at http://www.grenadaexplorer.com has a sticky, updated daily, that gives the status of all tourism infrastructure on the island: airport, tour operators, hotels, restaurants. It looks as though much is already on line.
914eener Posted November 2, 2004 #22 Share Posted November 2, 2004 Been trying to get Mandoo but no luck so far. 2 emails and 2 phone messages in the last couple of days have gone unanswered. With all of damage from Ivan should we just make it a day of shipboard fun instead?
the4ofusandallourfriends Posted November 2, 2004 #23 Share Posted November 2, 2004 Grenada is one of those places you can actually get off, walk around the bay, experience the local atmosphere, without the "american tourist mall". When we were there (5 years ago), we took a tour but also walked around the bay\port and it's very nice.
DoreenD Posted November 2, 2004 #24 Share Posted November 2, 2004 I emailed Mandoo last Fri and received a response from him this weekend. My concern is that our cruise, Golden Princess 12/19/04 will bypass Grenada. . .I've emailed him back to ask about cancellation policy, but have not heard back from him as of yet.
