Shogun Posted December 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Hi Folks, We made it on board, even with delayed flights and all that. The important stuff, Shogun has no bags, they made it onto the bus to the cruise port, and have not been seen since, now as this is a 20 day cruise, this is a big issue. I can not be sure but I would say the ship is running under special measures for the bug, why, because staff are standing at door ways squirting gell onto your hands, bread rolls at the table were handed out no help your self, even at the burger bar sauce was applied for you, to me this is not normal. Now the good stuff, we were on a Virgin flight out, this was the first time we have had movies on demand, for all seats, the chance to watch big first run movies was great made the 10 hours fly past, (sorry). Also the non stop food service of very good quality for an airline also made the time go in quickly. Princess put us up in the Intercon. hotel, a nice hotel that I would stay at again, but nothing close by if walking. Sailaway was good with plenty of toots and horns, Will post from Princess Cays and may be tell you about my lost bags. yours Shogun

Friends of mine were on the Sun last year and their luggage got loaded on the Caribbean Princess. Hope you get your luggage soon. Enjoy Princess Cays ( one of my favorite ports )....hope you had your bathing suit in a carryon.

Shogun Posted December 27, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Hi Folks, Have had time to look around the ship, I like what I see, many improvements over the old style grand layout. As to bags there is still a pile of unclaimed, but alas mine is not there, however as IO have crusised before in my carry on I had one of everything, so it is not the end of the world, the wife has her bags, so can always wear her stuff, or would some one spot this. Neil the CD seems to busy, ship has a few kids about, but ship has a nice happy feeling to it. yours Shogun

mycruz Posted December 27, 2007 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2007 I am so glad to see that you and your wife made the cruise and I too am sorry to hear about your luggage! I think I could make it just knowing I was on a ship for 20 days though! Please say hello to Marie Claude (MC) and her mother for me. We will be sailing together this coming August out of Southampton, can we entice you to join us? I am really looking forward to your live from reports, thanks for thinking of us. Even though I just sailed on the Emerald I look forward to the reports. It sounds like things have not changed since we were on as far as the noro precautions, oh well, it won't spoil your cruise I'm sure! Enjoy and looking forward to hearing from you soon. Rare geoherb Posted December 27, 2007 #13 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Shogun: Sorry to hear about your missing luggage. We just got off the Emerald yesterday. Our cruise was hit hard by the norovirus, so I guess they've continued the extra precautions. We met people who were doing back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back cruises on the Emerald. (Must be nice!) Our cruise was their fourth, and they have two more to go. At the end of it, they were forced to get off the ship--unlike their previous cruises--so the staff could do a more thorough cleaning. The casino closed early the last night of our cruise, and several areas on the ship were closed the last morning. The Emerald was the only big ship in Fort Lauderdale yesterday. It was a lot less hectic than the day we left. We were in the smaller terminal then, with the Crown Princess in the larger one. Do you have plans for St. Thomas? We walked to Emerald Beach and had a great day there. It's beautiful and inexpensive. I tried starting a "live" thread on our cruise but did not have any luck. The Internet connection to Cruise Critic kept timing out when I tried posting to the boards. I also managed to lock up a computer--watching my free minutes tick away--trying to view a hockey website. Fortunately, my minutes returned when the computer tech reset the machine. I had better luck with my email. The connection to it seemed pretty fast. I ended up with a lot of unused minutes. Mrs2cats Posted December 27, 2007 #14 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Hi Shogun, do I know you from Ship Happens? Hope you get your luggage soon. We were on Emerald in Sept for Grand Med cruise, isn't it a wonderful ship?
Momeof3 Posted December 27, 2007 #15 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Hi Shogun, Thanks for the thread, I have a group of 7 that will be on the Emerald in March. With the way I have seen some people dress on previous cruises I dont think I would even bat an eye seeing someone dressed in their wifes clothes. LOL Hope when you get back you will post some pictures of the Emerald. Enjoy!!!
penkitten86 Posted December 27, 2007 #16 Share Posted December 27, 2007 shogun sorry to hear lost luggage I too lost luggage on the grand. Princess was very accommodating to me. Which help. I had fun anyways. The bus line was at fault in my case. My suitcase got put on the Carnival Miracle go eastern carribean for 9 days (two days later than my cruise. Long story short I got my suitcase back about 2 weeks after I got home. So I had to unpack all over again :( BUt if you are a vertern cruiser you know to have a back up plan. penkitten86
bohunk72 Posted December 27, 2007 #17 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Shogun Being Scottish, you should be able to make several blue and white striped kilts to get you by for awhile.

vickie_bernie Posted December 28, 2007 #19 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Shogun glad to hear you made it on board and your flight turned out better than expected -- did the strike affect you at all? Have you gotten any luggage yet? What is Princess doing to help? How are the wife's clothes? Weird that they made it to the port but not the ship. previous posters said that they was a norwalk virus outbreak on the last cruise; sounds like they are using all precautions, just wash wash wash your hands and hopefully you will be okay. Looking forward to hearing about your turnaround day on your back to back as we too are doing b2b starting the 15th. What movies are they showing on MUTS as well as in room? Sorry for so many questions, I am full of them... Vickie
Shogun Posted December 28, 2007 Author #20 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Hi Folks, Well still no word on bags etc, so will give formal night a miss, As to movies Sherk, 1,2, and 3 Harry Potter the new one, Cars, etc so loads for the kids young and old. MI3 Hie Hard the new one Captain made his speech today about the bug so its offical, I think the crew wearing those throw away gloves all the time even when just helping you on and off the tenders was a give away. Not met table mates yet, so we might not meet for 5 days as eating at the crown soon. Ship is up to Princess standards but has a nice relaxed feel to it , why this is I am not sure, Tendering today went well, very impressed with the way they help a lad in the wheel chair to get on and off. will chat more latter. yours Shogun

cruiser113 Posted December 28, 2007 #23 Share Posted December 28, 2007 We are on the next cruise leaving Jan 5th. If you don't get your luggage??? We could bring some extra clothes, depending on your size?? Or at least underware! Are they doing a "Chef's Table"? We are staying on Baja and seems that all the previous chats say that is where the virus lurks. Hope it moves out to sea. Is Goodwin still on the ship?? Are you doing anytime dining? Any good wait staff to recommend? Did the Crown last January and ship is similiar and we loved the Crown. Look forward to your reviews. Hope you get your luggage soon. 8 days and a wake up till we sail.
SueM. Posted December 28, 2007 #24 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Hi Folks, Well still no word on bags etc, so will give formal night a miss, yours Shogun If you want to go to formal night, see about renting a tux. I know normally you have to rent them ahead of time, but they might have some on the ship. I have a feeling your bags are on the wrong ship and will show up when you get back to Ft. Lauderdale. Otherwise it will be easy to pick you out of the crowd on our 1/5 sailing(VBG). See you on 1/5th. sue
wahokie Posted December 28, 2007 #25 Share Posted December 28, 2007 According to Cruisecal it looks like the Emerald was the only ship in port the day you left. I can understand luggage going to the wrong ship if there are a lot in port leaving the same day but I am concerned to hear of your problem. We are leaving on February 4th and when I got my luggage tags I was shocked to see that they were hand written. I have only sailed RCI and Celebrity before and they were preprinted. Have you heard much about the Noro virus? I read somewhere that it seemed to be worse on the BaJa deck. That is where we are. I had it two years ago on the Radiance and it is not something I ever want to repeat. I have sailed since and was almost paranoid about washing my hands and using sanitizer. I am sure the people at my table wondered about me as I sanitized my hands after touching the menus but I did not get sick.
