capnlars Posted January 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2008 There was a thread earlier last year asking, but no answer.....it's not in any of the RCI cookbooks (and lord knows we've got 'em all). Anyone have a recipe for this?
GMoney Posted January 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2008 I LOVE Honey Stung! It's the best part of my cruises... :D
Hypo Posted January 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2008 I don't have the recipe, but I just Googled it and found out that the words "Honey Stung" are trademarked by Tyson Chicken producers. I wonder if RCCL buys the ready to cook chicken from Tyson? Otherwise, there use of the words "honey stung" would be a copyright infringement. :D Hypo
ShillyShally Posted January 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2008 OH, I'd love to know too - I loved this chicken! And hey, if it is available frozen, less work for me! :)
CrissyBarrows Posted January 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2008 my favorite dessert is the ivory chocolate fondue! they usually serve it on the first night, it is sooooo yummy! shipknotshore Posted January 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2008 You could try to email RCI and ask them. I believe others have made recipe requests and they've been successful.
Jerboy Posted January 3, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2008 Is the honey stung chicken only served in the Windjammer on embarkation day at lunch?? I believe thats the only place I've seen it, but not sure if it varies by ship.
Merion_Mom Posted January 3, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2008 That's the only time and place that *I* have seen it. I don't have the recipe, but I think of Honey Stung Chicken as General Tso's Chicken without the hot pepper flakes. ;)
ShillyShally Posted January 3, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2008 That's the only time and place that *I* have seen it. I don't have the recipe, but I think of Honey Stung Chicken as General Tso's Chicken without the hot pepper flakes. ;) LOL I only saw it on the first day too! BUT it was the base in the buffalo chicken sandwich in the Bistro lunch in the dining room so I had it once and then bemoaned the fact the DR wouldn't be open again for lunch until the last full day and had it again! :)

I don't have the recipe, but I think of Honey Stung Chicken as General Tso's Chicken without the hot pepper flakes. ;) Mental note...board Majesty at 11:30 AM. Make way to Windjammer. Locate honey stung chicken. Experience the utopia that everyone else is talking about. Seriously, I must have missed this on my Freedom trip, and if it's only served on embarkation day, then that's probably the reason.
mmi1103 Posted January 3, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2008 Honey Stung chicken is trademarked by Tyson and is not home made. I know this as I work for one of the companies that supply the cruise ships with food products. You can find it at Sam's Club. It is a pre-made, pre-cooked product albeit still very tasty! It comes in a three-piece or four-piece package. Hope this helps!

Brad1185 Posted January 3, 2008 #14 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I thought they had dozens of Chefs and cooks in the galley cooking and preparing the food, now sounds like they have people who know how to operate a microwave to heat up the premade frozen food. medfordgirl Posted January 4, 2008 #18 Share Posted January 4, 2008 I am so glad I saw this post. I leave saturday on the Radiance and I will have to try this "chicken". Looking forward to it. My DH will not eat at the windjammer. He feels it is too risky to get sick there. We try to be the first ones on board that way I can get him there before it gets crowded and he will eat there that one time only. Since I only get to go once I have to be choosy about what I get. But I will for sure try this chicken. :D

Brad1185 Posted January 4, 2008 #20 Share Posted January 4, 2008 This is disappointing. We thought RCI had a great recipe. But the chicken does taste good. I will look for it at Costco or Smart and Final.

Tanker4 Posted January 4, 2008 #23 Share Posted January 4, 2008 I'm curious about that strange name. I never tried it because the name was so odd. You might be the perfect person to explain where the name came from. Tyson Foods offers hundreds of products in the chicken, beef and pork lines and are constantly developing new products in their test kitchens for it's customers. When a new product is ready to be rolled out, the marketing department working with management and sales (and sometimes the customer) chooses a product name. In the case of "Honey Stung" as I recall, it refers to the sweet taste of the product due to the addition of a bit of honey in the ingredients. truffles2 Posted January 4, 2008 #24 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Maybe it refers to being "stung" by the bee while trying to get the honey to make the chicken:D
