carib_traveler Posted December 22, 2008 #101 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Hi people, Kontiki Beach is now called Cabana Beach and its been extensively remodeled (in a good way). It now looks more like Erin1998's picture than the ones in the beginning of this thread. EileenN: if the wheelchair folds then it would fit in one of the taxi vans (many cab drivers use vans/SUVs). There are no stairs to access the beach, so I guess you could call it accessible. cruisecookie: the water taxi is organised by the Plaza Hotel in Punda. I don't know if they still do it and what the times are, but you could email them.

WeRockChalkKU Posted December 23, 2008 #103 Share Posted December 23, 2008 The city bus service is another option to get to the beach. You'd need to get to the bus area which for us wasn't a bad walk since our ship was docked downtown. $1.50 pp each way made for a very affordable trip to the beach. Trivia Buffet Posted January 6, 2009 #104 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Returned last week from Emerald Princess Christmas cruise. Visited Kontiki and enjoyed it as described. Stayed 4 hours and loved every minute. Taxi fare from dock $5 pp, entrance fee $3 pp, chair $3 pp, return to ship taxi $5 pp. At $16 total pp, still less than package bought as part of tour package by other cruise passengers. Thank you for the pictures and beach suggestion!:D

WeRockChalkKU Posted January 21, 2009 #109 Share Posted January 21, 2009 awesome pics Thankyou Info What # bus would you take to Kontiki Beach and where would you get it Coming into Curacao on Adventure of seas March Love Mo They aren't really busses - just mini vans and they aren't numbered and have no set schedule. You just look for (in most instances) cardboard signs in the van that lists the SeaAquarium as a place that it goes. You catch them in town in a large parking lot - that is across a foot bridge from the covered large farmers market - which is down the street from the floating market. If you get off track, just ask a local and they'll point the way. We initially made the mistake of asking at one of the official information centers and got very poor directions/help. After you get dropped off at the aquarium, you can ask to be pointed towards the water walkway to get you to Kontiki/Kabana resort. You'll walk by/through several other resort areas. We didn't ask but they might offer the same type of thing that Kontiki does. Then you'd need to return to the Aquarium to be picked up. However, there's no set schedule for that - they just kinda make their loops when they have passengers. We managed to time it all perfectly and didn't ever have to wait. Another passenger had been waiting 20 minutes when we made our return. It might sound a little involved but, if it doesn't work out - you can always get a private taxi. Good luck. BalconyPrincess Posted February 10, 2009 #114 Share Posted February 10, 2009 We will be in Curacao in April and this sounds great. Does anyone know if they offer parasailing and how much it costs? DS (18 years old) has listened to DH's stories and can't wait to try. If parasailing is not offered, does anyone know if there is a beach in Curacao that does offer it? Thanks so much. soilcruiser Posted February 27, 2009 #115 Share Posted February 27, 2009 did not see any parasailing. but jet skis next door. We were there last week and just as great as previously described. Thanks to the op, we may never had found it. Stay away from the hamburgers @ the rest. they were very dry
Santa's Girl Posted March 20, 2009 #116 Share Posted March 20, 2009 A huge thanks for the continued excitement on this thread. Going back to a message at the beginning, I guess I should be buying our fellas some wrap around shades, and will probably stay away from traumatizing my sons by going topless (at this point in the trip, I would look like two headlights anyway). :D Reading this thread has made my day. With thanks - Cindi
DireMongoose Posted March 20, 2009 #117 Share Posted March 20, 2009 Hey, Kon Tiki sounds great. I was just curious as to the food - are there any local type food options there? As in, not burgers or stuff I can get at home? Thanks, I don't know if this is useful six months later, but I had a little more information here: There are a number of resorts / bars / restaurants along this stretch of beach; one of them (not the one nearest Cabana/Kontiki, although we ultimately ate there and were pleased with the food) has a lot of interesting food that's not like anything I've personally seen in America. I wish I'd taken a picture of the menu.

Kviolasr Posted April 10, 2009 #120 Share Posted April 10, 2009 We spent the day here on our recent AOS cruise. I highly recommend it. We took the public bus there and back to downtown ($1.50 each eay PP), just tell the bus driver where you are going. The place still has both the Kon Tiki and Cabana beach names up but is easy to miss because of all the construction on the main road. We rented snorkel gear (approx. $15 PP for the day), snorkelling was decent along the breakwater, Drinks and food were very reasonable. Very relaxing and inexpensive day!! Thanks for the help. I think there is a casino at Breezes but not for sure. There are several casinos in the area of the Mega Pier. There is a nice, new casino at the Renaissance Marriott at the Mega Pier.
