Only One Bar ??????

There were several people in our group that sailed on the Sun last week that are smokers. And none of them felt inconvenienced in the least. In today's world, smoking is banned mostly everywhere so the ship was no different. There were enough ashtrays outside on the decks, and they could smoke in their rooms, and in the casino, so it was not a problem at all. In fact, I don't think they ever went to the cigar bar at all.

The Cigar Bar is also adjacent to the Windjamer's Bar, well within reach of the waiters and waitresses serving Windjammers. I thought Windjammers was the best bar on the Sun, decor wise. It's a plus the Cigar Bar was so close.

It will be like drinking black coffee when you're used to cream and sugar. So far here in Pa we've had the brains to allow both so far but I'm sure that will change too. What's the difference if you kill yourself with booze or smoke.

The difference is your killing others also not just yourself. I'm from PA too and it is changing. There may not be a law everywhere yet but more and more places are going smoke free.

Happy cruising

Hey SakeDad, our daughter and her husband live in Henderson and we went on a cruise with two couples from there. Must be a big town! :)

Ok I am a non-smoker but will probably get flamed for this anyway. I definitely would prefer if people did not smoke. That being said though, most of these posts have been about government laws. If any private business wants to ban smoking that should be up to them, not the government. We go to restaurants that have no smoking altogether and we go to restaurants that allow it in the bar.

NCL is not a government run company.

Am I to understand that only one bar or lounge permits smoking! This is silly. Bars and smoking go together like babies and diapers. I,d be happy with half being smoke free. Guess this will be my last NCL trip!!!
ok, I haven't read the other responses, but bet they are similar to mine. Tell me which ships allow smoking in most bars? As a frequent cruiser, travel agent and occassional smoker I can guarantee you most lines have cut way back on smoking areas. rCI even offers non smoking cabins, HAL and Princess has non smoking days and nights in the casino, all lines allow smoking only on one side of the ship decks. Let's face it, we are becoming a non smoking society and boycotting non smoking businesses is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Restricting smoking in bars has made the casinos on ships reallllly!!! smokey since it is one of the few inside places to smoke. If they did have one section in one of the nice inside bars for smoking, I think it would cut down some on the casino smoke.

Come down to the Easton Area in Columbus. Smith & Wollensky Restaurant put tables outside during the winter with propane fired heaters scattered through the area to keep it warm. Now you can poison your lungs from smoking while being suffocated from propane fumes at the same time.....

There has been some debate here in the UK about the greenhouse gases these patio heaters pump out. Many chains of pubs are now caught between providing comfortable outdoor smoking areas for their customers and being seen to have the green credentials so many these days seek. It's not an easy one. Perhaps I should go about inventing a "safe" nuclear powered patio heater. Could make a fortune;)

I agree, I have thought that ever since the cruise lines started deligating the casino bar as the only smoking bar. Even if there is smoking in the casino it isn't as bad as when the bar in the only place to smoke. On PRincess a few months ago, you could smoke in the casino except non smoking nights and at the bar, but there was another smoking bar as well.

Let's face it though, there is no way we are all going to like the smoking, non smoking policies.

Huh? Last cruise I was on (Gem), you could smoke at any of the outdoor bars, at the casino bar, and in the smoking lounge.

And as for your bars and smoking theory ... yeah, I thought that too until they banned smoking in bars in NY and NJ. And then I learned to deal with going outside for a smoke. And then I quit.

I quit smoking cigarettes three years ago because I saw the handwriting on the wall. It was getting more and more difficult to find a "legal" place to smoke. I was tired of having to go somewhere else all the time to have a cigarette. That was BEFORE New Jersey banned smoking in all public buildings, including bars and restaurants. Boy, am I glad I quit!!!

Do you think there is a chance they will create no-smoking section of casino? I would go in there a LOT more if it wasn't so tough to breathe!

Funny you should mention that.... They are once again trying to get casino gambling passed in Ohio. The only problem is that if the casino gambling issue passes this time, (third attempt in 10 years...always gone down big), they won't be able to allow smoking in the casino because of Ohio stringent non-smoking rule. So, you may be able to come to Ohio for smoke free gambling......but don't count on it....

I don't know what can stir people up more -- politics, religion or smoking!

They are all increasingly at the whim of a bunch of people who want to control every aspect of other people's lives. I think that is why there is a greater level of frustration among the rest of us. :(

Reminds me of a quote from one of our founding fathers... "The Government that governs the least, governs the best." That was said by Thomas Jefferson. He is considered to be the founder of the Democratic Party.

And he also grew tobacco. I think he'd be a bit biased on the issue. :D

I live it CT ,which has pretty much been smoke free for quite some time. The legislators have a bill now which would not allow smoking in your own car if their are children in it.

They passed this law in Maine a couple years back. Grew up with both of my parents being smokers, in the house, car, anywhere we went. Im fine. Thats all i got to say. I think you can guess my take on the subject, flame away if you please .

Your study with a sample of 1 person does make me think maybe it is safe! My father smoked and i have IgA nephropathy so my study of 1 person shows me that everyone with a smoking father gets that (which does not have a clear cause, so it COULD be second hand smoke).

I am more likely to believe the many much more scientific studies that are done, you can't base the safety of something on everyone based on your own experience.

I think they should allow smoking in gas stations, especially while refueling. I see ENOUGH attendents who think the same way, too.

NCL is one of the few remaining cruise lines that lets you smoke in your cabin.

As for those who object to smokers on balconies I say you've got the WHOLE INSIDE of the ship except the casino and cigar bar. Why do you have to have the outside too?

Or do you think that smoking should be treated as felony drug possession offense and smokers should be locked up to go "cold turkey" for their own good?

I was just on HAL's Noordam and I was allowed to smoke in my cabin and/on my balcony. However, last May I was NOT allowed to smoke in my cabin but I could on the balcony on Carnival's Miracle.
