Murphey Posted June 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2008 I know the Star is going into drydock this fall and is making changes. I also know that they are moving the casino from deck 6 and putting in 7 non-balcony suites. What I can't figure out is what are taking out from deck 7 (or maybe it's deck 5) to put in the casino???? What's expendable??

trudib Posted June 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2008 That whole area on deck 7 is being moved around and the sports court, Internet Cafe and wedding chapel will be moved. See below......... Two Princess Ships to Be Remodeled with Line's Latest Signature Features Published on May 2, 2008 7:11 AM PT Over the course of the next year, Star Princess and Caribbean Princess will be remodeled to incorporate amenities that have become passenger favorites on the line's newer ships. "After Crown Princess and Emerald Princess debuted, we knew we had struck a chord with our passengers who loved the piazza-style atriums, new dining experiences, and the peaceful environment of The Sanctuary," said Jan Swartz, senior vice president. "We're delighted to bring these hallmark features to two of the other vessels." The upcoming makeovers will transform the Deck 5 atrium into the inviting piazza-style street café currently found on Crown Princess and Emerald Princess, featuring the specialty coffees, fresh baked goods, paninis, and tapas of the International Café. The Vines wine bar will be expanded to include rare vintage wines and artisan meats and cheeses, as well as a wine shop. The renovations will also add the company's signature adults-only Sanctuary, which features plush padded lounge chairs and the services of dedicated Serenity Stewards. Finally, the ships will replace their current steakhouse with the Crown Grill restaurant, which includes an open-show kitchen where passengers can enjoy watching the chefs prepare chops, steaks, and seafood, and will add seven new suites with ocean-view picture windows. Star Princess will receive these new features during her September drydock in San Francisco; Caribbean Princess will follow in January 2009. To make room for the new features, the casino will be relocated one deck higher to deck 7, bringing it into the ship's central entertainment area. The sports court, Internet Café, and wedding chapel will also be moved during the renovation process.
trudib Posted June 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Here is some more information from my friend Oh, just found out that the Casino is being swapped with the "Sterling Steakhouse". Seems that Carnival Corp wants more traffic in the casino so we're moving it to the same deck as other entertainment venues like the theater, explorers lounge, etc. These renovations are in the million of dollars. But I think we were due for a little face lift.

figmentdj Posted July 1, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Sounds like a lot of great things. If it goes into refit in September, will it really be ready by October 11, the first sailing after the work is done?
CL-JW Posted July 2, 2008 #10 Share Posted July 2, 2008 We're excited that the Star will be drydocking here in San Francisco. It will be great to see such a large ship drydocked here!

If it goes into refit in September, will it really be ready by October 11, the first sailing after the work is done? Yes. Remember Princess practically rebuilt the Star in about 7 weeks following it's devastating fire in March 2006. Compared to that, dry dock will be a piece of cake. Everything will be ready and waiting for the ship when she arrives in San Francisco so they'll be ready to disassemble and reassemble in the time frame they've put aside.;)
KarenCL Posted July 2, 2008 #12 Share Posted July 2, 2008 I agree that putting the casino and its smoke in the middle of the Promenade Deck is really disastrous...must have been a man's decision (ha ha!)....I guess we will be talking the elevators or stairs up to Deck 8 to cross over to the Princess Theatre when we go on the Star next summer. I'm glad that they are making improvements to Star (with the exception of the casino relocation), as it is really a nice ship and deserves to be kept fresh. Now...if Princess would only replace the ratty furniture in the staterooms of all the older ships, especially the sofas in the suites and minisuites.... CL-JW Posted July 3, 2008 #15 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Rumor has it that Princess has reconsidered and will be adding MUTS to the Star..:eek: OMG - I hope that's just a rumor! MUTS looks good on ships built for it, but as retrofitted on the Grand it looks hideous!
