Disappointed in the Splendor (photos)

Hi Casshew,,,,

I was on the sailing with Lovingtheseas and have a different perspective (sorry Kenny) The ship is ugly! I was hoping for a more upscale look since this is a new class of ship for Carnival but I am sorry to say there is simply no class in the decorating they used. The pink zebra stripe donuts are EVERYWHERE! Black bathroom like tile with lime green grout line the elevator areas. Even the crew was making jokes about the decor and the massive amounts of donut shapes.

The cabins are the exact same decor as other ships with the exception of the spa cabins. A friend was in an inside spa cabin that would have given me nightmares and they wish they would have gone with a reg. balcony for the same price. There were really no benefits to the spa cabins except the fancy jacuzzi pool.

As for everything being new, the one thing I was really looking forward to is the new carpeting but found it to already be frayed, torn and had several bleached spots in the cabin corridors. The common areas were new and very clean and it was nice to sit down on seats and chairs knowing not many had set there before you.

I was also the 1st to use the washers on deck 2 and happy to say they worked great!!! My cabin air conditioning worked only when it wanted and my mini bar fridge NEVER worked so there is something to be said about the benefits of a ship that has been slightly broken in:)

It's like they are trying to shock you with decor and make it a memorable experience :D

Maybe I should switch from the Spa Suite to a regular cabin - I have bi idea what to do, the only other choice is Mariner of the Seas for this itin.

I think I will just wait for reviews and more pics :p

I am booked on the Splendor......Maybe I have no taste? :D

Just remember, you said it first! :) Carnival's interior designs over the past few ships have been a bit similar - strange colors and big balls all over the place. But after having been on both Carnival and Princess (as well as several somethings of the seas), you will have a better cruise overall on Carnival. And that is my humble opinion of the whole thing.

It's Farcusugly or should I say Farcusing Ugly LOL

I only hope the photos are not doing the ship justice.

I work with a lot of architects and designers..some who have even worked on some Carnival & Celebrity interiors..there are much better ways to be fun and over the top

I am booked on the Splendor and was looking forward to seeing her, I was shocked to see her in the pics that were recently posted.

Other posters are posting how beautiful she is after seeing the pics and I am thinking wow, that is one ugly ship (inside).

Her pool area with the hanging flowers looks really nice and also the cabins look good, and the exterior fine, but all the dining room/bars and public areas look  horrible.

Maybe she is not as bad in person as in the pics? the colours (purple/orange and the big circles everywhere)

So am I totally crazy or is anyone else seeing what I am? I am seriously considering switching to RCCL (which I have never tried either) based on the photos I saw of Splendor.

Maybe I have no taste? :D

You are thinking of cancelling a cruise because of the colors of the public interior spaces?

Frankly, of the 7 cruises I have taken, I couldn't tell you the color scheme of the ships, but I can tell you everything about the ports I visited and the friends I made.

She may be ugly, but that doesn't mean you will have a bad time.

;)

Totally disagree with you. Went on all three lines last year and will go on all three again this year, and must tell you that my least favorite was the Carnival one.

I guess I could wear dark glasses the whole time

2 ships, same itinerary, same cost - what is wrong with booking the one that is appealing and canceling the one that is hideous? lol

Waiting for more pics and reviews though :p

To each their own :D

But all in all everybody, are we there for the decor, or to have a good time? Because yeah, it might be pretty darn ugly, but I still had an amazing trip, and you probably will too.

I have to admit I thought the same thing when i saw the Splendor pictures. Too much pink and maroon. I do think some Carnival ships are more attractively decorated than others, despite all being Farcusy. The Liberty, for example, looks beautiful to me but I just haven't made it on yet. I think your reasoning above makes a lot of sense - assuming, of course, that you can afford a similar stateroom to what you are wanting to be in on Carnival. Why wouldn't you want to be on the prettier ship?

That said, we had our best cruise ever on the Glory, and I think the "Colors" color scheme is awful. The excellent service, great layout, and friendly atmosphere made up for the bizarre theming and by the end we were saying that we would truly miss the White Heat disco which we had initially mocked. There are tangible and intangible things that keep us coming back to Carnival despite the decor.

I think I'd still have a good time, I'd be laughing all the time!

I do think the pool area with the flowers is beautiful and the cabins perfectly fine. I sailed on Festivale years and years and years ago - this would be my return to Carnival.

I happen to agree with you based on the pictures I have seen. The Atrium really hurt my eyes, and I sat there and tried to look beyond the colors, and shapes and couldn't do it. Oh well, I still want to go on this ship, and I am sure it is not as bad as it looks, but come on, Farcus really needs to tone it down a little.

I think you just have to take it as a given that any Carnival ships interior is at some point going to make you say "huh?" Now some ships are worse than others, but they all get a little sideways sometimes. I personally think that Farcus packs a hookah with him when he goes out to practice his....."art"......

In any case, I am certainly not going to avoid a ship just because it's interior is ugly, if I did, I couldn't go on most of Carnivals ships! I mean come on, have you seen the Sensation-al Purple People Eater?!?!?

I wish Spendor was coming to FL. I would gladly sail on her, the changes they have done to her upper decks put her above and beyond all of the Conquest class ships in my opinion. I can deal with the Pepto Bismol explosion going on inside.

FUNNY POST. :D

Or the Victory-drunken-guacamole'n'beer-puke GREEN ! ! :D

(and I have a dear friend who just loves that friggin' ship, talked me into going with her twice on it ! )

Well.... out of all the Carnival ships I have been on ...the interior is the only thing I don't remember and could care less.

I can tell you that The Greenbriar in Va. has lovely interior spaces and was on of the most boring vacations we ever took.

Interior....Fun...sorry, I will take the fun.

As for a few things not working right on board....it is called LIFE!!! (last time I checked)

I thought the pictures of the splendor were toned down but you do need to know my first carnival ship was the Sensation and after that everything is toned down.

I really did think the pictures of Splendor were nice

Hey - I love the Victory too. I think your green is the wrong shade - it's much more AQUA. (This isn't not quite right either - the right color isn't in the font listing.) I've found that there are places I love and I don't love on any ship. On Victory, for example, I love the Ionian lounge and the Irish Seas piano bar. Two of the finest lounges Carnival has. Also on Victory, the dining rooms are the ugliest dining rooms on any Carnival ship we've sailed. I can't stand the mermaid heads. It hasn't stopped me from sailing Victory three times, with #4 booked next month.

On any Carnival ship I've sailed, there's been some lounge that I just say "HUH?" when I look at it. I hated Paris Hot on Valor, and the tattoo hands and feet in the disco on Liberty were just weird. Medusa's Lair on Legend didn't do much for me. However, with seven Carnival cruises down and three booked, I think you can see that decor isn't the overriding factor for me. Overall, I've loved every ship we've sailed.

We just got off of the Inaguaral sailing on the Splendor. Your eyes are not playing tricks on you. There are PINK donuts all over the ship. This was our first Carnival cruise and didn't know what to expect, but others that are loyal Carnival cruises said it was horrible compared to other ships they had been on.
Aside from the decor and the bugs that were to be expected for an inaugural cruise, I can't say that it was a bad cruise, but I also can't say that it was a great cruise either. The itinerary was wonderful, and that was the most important thing to us.
I see by your signature that you are going on the Caribbean Princess later this year. We were on that last year for New Year's. It is a beautiful ship. You're sure to enjoy it.

Question for ya Shoequeen (and I am with ya on the decor, I have to remind myself, going for the ports, port intensive, ship is just to sleep and have some meals!) -- On Princess there are always card room/game rooms where they have a ton of board games and a great place to relax and play Scrabble or cards -- Did this boat have anything like that? Also, were there places to sit out in the sun on sea days away from the pool that were relaxing/quiet?? What places on the boat were good to get away and relax?

Thanks! 2 months till I go!!!

:) I was with you last year on the trip to Eygpt. I am on the Splendor in Aug.08 and I was not crazy with the interior photos posted on the web...I guess Carnival known as the Party Ships has to live up to their reputation and pink and that decor looks like party, party,party...
I booked her months and months ago, where there were no real pics. I have a Spa Suite. Ive been waiting all this time for pics.
