What does everyone think about this?

We'll be booking. We love all cruise ships and sailing on one so innovative and different will be a fun 7 days. Sometimes it's a good thing to go outside one's comfortable little box and experience something new.

My family will also be booking this ship when they open up! We have a preference for the larger ships. To each his own :). I am just concerned what the fares will look like the first year .

In the future, I will be very careful when I book a cruise to insure that I won't be in the same port with this ship on any given day. A more appropriate name for this ship would be Monstrosity of the Seas!

LOL, Yep, great name, I will definitely agree on that one!

With all the "no ways" on this thread, it seems RC is doing exactly what they intend to do with this ship...attract some of the 90%+ of the population who has never cruised to this kind of vacation, especially the large percentage of that group who thinks they would feel bored or confined on a ship.

Unfortunately for most of us, the mass market cruise lines will all be working harder to attract new cruisers, and, by doing so, will abandon some of the cruise attributes that we find so enjoyable. There is no doubt that the average age of passenger on the Oasis OTS will be much younger than that on the Grand Princess, and I bet RC feels quite comfortable in locking in loyal passengers at such a young age.

But do I want to travel on it? No way. I still haven't found my way onto the Voyager OTS class ships, and the largest ships I've been on are Princess's Grand class. While I am a firm believer in passenger space ratios affecting cruise quality (and therefore am anxious to book a Celebrity Solstice Class ship), I think that, for cruise ships, or more importantly cruise ports, size does matter.

I prefer a ship that looks like a ship. I'm sticking w/ Princess

Actually, one of the reasons I like (and booked) the Caribbean Princess is that it is a ship design that is unique, with the flat aft going all the way to the top of the "handle." It looks totally different than the classic "Titanic" transatlantic ship designs. I know Princess has gone away from this design with its newer ships, but I like it.

But then, I also like the Oasis of the Seas and hope to try it some day. I like the idea of a lot of different options, so I prefer the larger ships and this ship will have so many different places to go and things to do that it won't be possible to sample them all on a 7-day cruise. I am interested in hearing how the cruise experience works in practice, will the ship really overwhelm ports (or will they schedule the ship to be in ports when other mega-ships are not so it will be no greater impact than on current ports today when 2 or more of these ships are there on the same day) and will there be no room to sun or overcrowding of the decks and food and entertainment venues (or will the increased size mean enough room to prevent crowding)? Time will tell.

I also agree that this is a perfectly reasonable question to raise on this board. There are posts on the RCI board on the Oasis, but it is interesting to read what cruisers on other boards think of this new ship, which will be unique--not only the new largest cruise ship, but by a significant factor which may set a trend for the entire industry.

Thanks to all coming to my defense on posting this on the Princess board.:o It is interesting to me that people who don't think I should have posted on Princess, actually take the time to discipline me. I read posts all the time that, if irrelevant, I just ignore and go to the next. Besides, I think this is very relevant to Princess and cruising!:)

Back to the subject....It kind of freaks me out that 6,300 passengers will be on one ship. 6,300!!!!!

Launching late 2009

220,000 GRT

7 neighborhoods

5,400 guests - It says "6,300" at the very end of the video

2,700 staterooms

16 decks high

Just think about being on that ship and how crowded each port would be with just your fellow cruisers! The shore excursions? How will they handle that...

From the RCI website:

The Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas will begin sailing in December 2009 and will the be largest and most innovative cruise ship in the industry. The Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross tons and carry an amazing 5,400 cruise passengers. The Oasis of the Seas will sail from her home port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and embark on 7-Night Eastern & Western Caribbean cruise itineraries.

I wonder what the dining will be like? I would think that on something that big they would almost have to have some kind of Anytime dining setup...or start dinner seatings at 3pm:)

I would like to try it...im interested in the price ( I always find RCCI more expensive then Princess to start with) Also, Im interested in the non-suite non duplex super mega rooms. I wonder what a normal balcony cabin will be like?

Whether you think its for you or not...how can you not be interested in knowing more?

The only thing I really like about it is the 2 story suites.

IMO the Mariner of the Seas "pushed" people inside too much, can you imagine this ship?

I really hope Carnival Corp doesn't try to keep up, I hope the Dream and her sister are the biggest ships with in Carnival Corp.

RCCL has a lot of wow and it ends at that. I doubt we will ever sail on RCCL again.

I've done a little more reading/research about RCI's new behemoth vessel. It's possible that 6,300 is the maximum number of passengers if the ship is filled to capacity with 3/4 persons in staterooms that accommodate additional guests.

I certainly hope there would be more than 900 crew members for 5,400+ passengers! My guess would be something like 2,000+ staff and crew.

I'm interested in learning more about this ship and will look forward to reviews when it finally sets sail. I think Princess "jewels" are large enough and wouldn't want to cruise on a bigger ship. Whatever floats your boat :D

I too am intrigued. I wonder with the middle of the ship scooped out what will the common areas look like? A lot of square footage is missing so where do you put enough pools and dining rooms and theaters to accomodate everyone.

When I pick a ship to cruise I usually pick it according to why I am cruising. I cruise to rest mostly from a demanding work schedule so I am looking for the primo cabin with the primo balcony. But when i cruise to blow off steam and explore new things I want a ship with tons of things to do and see. So I might wait a year to hear the reviews on this ship but it does sound interesting. This ship could fall into the "rest and relax wanna stay away from all the people by having a nice loft cabin" category. But it may also fit the "lets explore the ship and new adventures" category.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I think I would like to tour it first but it might be fun. It reminds me of some of the mega casinos in Las Vegas. I would hate to imagine port days being like the sidewalks in Las Vegas in the summertime, but it just depends on how many ships are in port with you I guess.

Having sailed on RCL's Freedom of the Seas and getting caught in 60 - 80 knot winds and feeling the ship tipped until the Captain could steer into the wind - I don't think we will be booking the Oasis.

I was terrified when that happened, I can't imagine being on an even bigger ship and getting caught like that.

And I am also sure that the pricing will be ridiculous.

I like RCL, but Princess is a much better value and they have better itineraries IMO.

It looks like a nice concept but in my opinion, it is too big. One mayor draw back with RCL is their Immersion program. In addition, I find it odd that a ship will offer a tattoo parlor. What happens if the ship suddenly hits a big wave or a strong wind from the side moves the ship. The tattoo artist all of the sudden say oops, I am so sorry?

Yes, I noted this as well. But if you will watch the video, he says 6,300.
