At Sea Cruises

I'm considering a 9-day Trans-Atlantic on the Crown Princess next April. It leaves FLL and makes one stop in the Azores and then on to Lisboa.

You can turn any cruise into an "at sea" cruise by not getting off the ship in any of the ports. The advantage of this is unlike traditional sea days, because everyone else is off the ship, it's much less crowded and calmer on the ship.

Also look at repositioning cruises. Many times there are only 1-2 ports and the rest are extended days at sea. These trips are usually 10 or more days long. They are often a great value because the cruise line has to move the ship anyway, so they offer reduced fares to try and fill the ships. The last repo cruise we did was Vancouver to Hawaii. Ship was less than half full and it was one of our best cruises!

Just love those repositioning cruises. Our last two ocean cruises were repositioning cruises, with lots of relaxing sea days, as will be our next cruise. All had interesting ports of call, with enough time to enjoy the ship. The best of both worlds.

We've been to the Caribbean so many times that often we don't get off for days during our cruise. Day after day the ship pulls into one island or another and we just stay aboard if there isn't anything we which to see or do again at that island.

Other times we'll get off and walk around for a while/shop/go to the beach.

It's great on the ship when most everyone is off.
