THANKS! Host Anne, To stop all the nonsense that we all know is coming, why not produce a sticky at the top of the message board that details the policy for all to see, and one that has no comment. All I can say is that the policy will work having experienced it first hand on AZ.

All I can say is that the policy will work having experienced it first hand on AZ. We are cruising very soon and are very interested to get some feedback from anyone that is just off a ship - re where smoking is allowed or not. We know what Celebrity put out months ago about what the plan was, but in reality it is probably different and that didn't specify exactly which bars you could/could not smoke in. So making it a sticky with no comments would not give us the answer. Hopefully someone will come along soon to clarify the facts!
Rare hcat Posted October 15, 2008 #29 Share Posted October 15, 2008 I have not seen any inappropriate posts & the questions are legitimate so why not keep the thread going so we can get the info out there-- I think Anne has it under control at the moment! For Solstice I expect we really won't know til after the first few cruises are back.
Rare Host Anne Posted October 16, 2008 #30 Share Posted October 16, 2008 swigso ~ People want to hear feedback from folks currently sailing under the new policy and that's what the boards are here for -- people to share their experiences. There is nothing wrong with discussing the new policy and it's implementation. The only challenges come into play when folks disregard our Guidelines and make personal, pointed comments that become a violation. So as long as folks answer the questions within our Guidelines, the discussion is very appropriate.
Norcal Cruiser Posted October 16, 2008 #31 Share Posted October 16, 2008 With all due respect Host Anne I think people are asking you to come up with Celebrities official smoking policy.I have been to the Celebrity website as recently as yesterday and they hadn't refreshed their policy.I'm sure we could hear from other recent cruisers on how they got around the rules and what is Celebrity doing about it.What I think most posters want to know is the official policy.I could be wrong and am in no way trying to get around the OP yeah actually I probably am.Where should people look for the official policy?I honestly am just trying to help out this thread.I have nothing to say about smokers or non smokers. I need to know the answer to this, not because I want to get round the rules, but because I want to know the areas on board where I can officially smoke - I have no intenation of flouting the rules. The Celebrity press release many months ago, indicated there would be at least two inside bars where smoking would be allowed, I am now hearing that may only be one. And that is fine with me, I just would like to know!

Celebrity's policy has been on the web site since it was implemented and for awhile was in red on the home page. That is not what this thread is about. We know they have a new policy that went into effect on Oct. 1 and what posters want to know is how it is being implemented on the cruises after that date. Anne is absolutely correct in that she removed a number of posts that were off topic and would have taken this thread in a different direction had they been left on the board especially with such a volatile subject... Here's the policy, the only refreshing that has to be done is to remove the references to prior to Oct. 1 but the policy is there.. http://www.celebritycruises.com/beforeyourcruise/faq/home.do;jsessionid=000048cBvKY7gfc_UzycQsTgMcq:12hdebcnj?faqSubjectName=Ship+and+Stateroom+Details&faqId=572&pagename=faq_answers
Rare Host Anne Posted October 16, 2008 #34 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Thanks, Don for posting the link to the policy....I was just about to do that. When the annoucement was made last summer to change the policy, it has highly discussed here (although most threads were locked for non-compliance with our Guidelines) and Celebrity had an announcement on their home page in red for quite some time. Addict ~ I'm positive that once you board your ship, the locations where smoking is permitted will be printed in the Celebrity daily paper placed in your cabin each night and the policy will probably be explained by your cabin attendent. I'm guessing the locations on each ship might vary due to different ship layouts and facilities. And if all else fails, go to guest services and request a list of the smoking areas in writing. Addict Posted October 16, 2008 #35 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Thank you Anne. We are leaving in two days time :D and I was hoping to get a little more information before we leave. But as the policy only came into effect for the current sailing of Summit, I thought it was unlikely. I will post when we get back to explain the real deal (at least for Summit). Rare Host Anne Posted October 16, 2008 #36 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Sue ~ thanks for your willingness to come back and report. People are interested in hearing the info and how things are being handled. Have a fantastic time on Summit - one of my favorite ships! Bon Voyage! 2Canucks Posted October 16, 2008 #37 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Addict ... Sue... My DH would really appreciate your "Smoking Areas" feedback on your return. He wants to follow the rules but would like a "clearer idea" of "where" he can have his smoke breaks. I'm a non-smoker and DH never smoked in our cabin always used our balcony and only when the neighbors weren't out on their balconies. He's going to miss his "private" smoking balcony time! I had emailled Celebrity concerning the New policy and clearly asked for the allowed smoking areas. Their reply was to attach the already posted policy on their website! :( No NEW information with exact locations. We'll be doing a B2B on the Constellation in Jan/09 so would really like some feedback from cruisers who are cruising before us. Thanks in advance for any information you can share with us concerning the smoking areas. Pat :)

Bfson Posted October 23, 2008 #40 Share Posted October 23, 2008 We just got off the Mercury on Wednesday of this week. We were delighted with the new policy. It was so nice to NEVER be driven off our balcony by the stench of a cigar. They allowed smoking at the slot machines in the Casino and on the starboard side of the outside areas on decks 11 and 12. (the decks with the outdoor pools and the running track) They have lots of ashtrays out in the smoking areas so as to give visual clues where it is ok to smoke) There may have been other places but we didn't see them. Addict Posted November 2, 2008 #41 Share Posted November 2, 2008 Hi everyone We just got off Summit yesterday in Barcelona and, as promised, here are the details for the smoking areas. The ONLY inside areas you can smoke on the ship are the port side of the casino (slots area only) and the port side of Revelations, Bar at the Edge of the Earth on deck 11. The outside areas are the same as they have always been - port side of the promenade deck 4, port side of the pool areas on deck 10 and 11, and port side of the Aft bar on Deck 10 (behind the buffet area). Busiest smoking areas were the Aft bar on Deck 10 and the tables at the back of the pool area near to the table tennis (ping pong) tables. Hope this helps those about to sail. Karynanne Posted November 2, 2008 #42 Share Posted November 2, 2008 Thank you for reporting back here with the information. I'm looking forward to being in the Casino...at a blackjack table, that is smoke-free!
infolady Posted November 2, 2008 #43 Share Posted November 2, 2008 Thanks so much for the info!! I had heard that the port side of the Aft bar on 10 was going to be non-smoking ... thanks for clearing that up. This sounds like a workable solution for all. I guess that if we planned another cruise on Celebrity, what we would miss most would be the smoke with pre-dinner drinks in the Rendezvous lounge. Strangely, when we were on Summit 2 months ago, we never saw anyone smoking in Revelations and assumed it was not allowed. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip soon. Curiously (or not maybe) the Rendevous Lounge and the Champagne/Martini bar were almost empty most of the time so I wondered where all the non smokers were that were going to be using those bars once they were smoke free?? We felt sorry for the bar waiters in those lounges - their tips must have been seriously affected as hardly anyone used those bars. Revelations was not well attended by either smokers or non-smokers, and definitely not convenient to have a pre-dinner drink (being at the opposite end of the ship to the dining room). A better compromise would have been to designate a small bar, maybe Michaels Club, for smokers? Something we will have to get used to I guess. I know this because one of them told me first hand. So some of them love to work in the slow bars because they don't have to work as hard but still get the benefits of the pool. :D

Bugeye Posted November 4, 2008 #50 Share Posted November 4, 2008 We are just off the Constellation, 10/30. The smoking policy seemed to work, for the most part. The Casino, however, was not usable by non smokers. During the hours before and after dinner, if someone wanted to smoke, they stepped into the Casino. It didn't matter what side, or if they were gambling. The rest of the passengers made sure to cross the ship on another deck. The bars were busy before both seatings for dinner. After dinner the passengers went to the area with the best entertainment. With Perry Grant on board, Michael's Club was packed, standing room only, any night he was in there. I don't think you could ever turn that area back into a smoking lounge. The Cigar smoking encouraged on the Aft Deck should be disclosed to those booking cabins with the large verandahs below that deck. I did hear several complaints as the smoke got into their cabins even with the verandah doors closed. I don't know if the "No Smoking" in the cabins was really observed. I did smell smoke quite often in the passageways. This was a cold weather cruise so I doubt anyone would be on their balcony. I wonder who is supposed to enforce the policy in cabins. The attendants depending on tips won't want to do it. It is a step in the right direction and was probably pushed by their insurance company. Are any other ships doing this?
