onboard credit refund

My boss has just surprised us and is offering to give us a $1,500 onboard credit for our upcoming cruise next monday. We already have a $700 onboard credit ($200 shareholder and $500 onboard credit we prepaid).

My question is what happends if we do not use all the credits we have? Anyone know? Do they refund it in cash? or refund it to the credit card that it was used to buy the credit in advance (my bosses)? Or do the refund it to the credit card you have on file when you set up your onboard account (our person credit card)?

Help thoughts?

I didn't notice how many days your cruise lasts, but with about 2 days to go, check your balance and see approximately what you have left as credits. Just go to the casino and ask to take out whatever amount of money you choose. They're supposed to think you're going to use it to gamble. Instead, you just put it in your pocket if you're not a gambler. Celebrity now charges 3% to do this, but that doesn't amount to that much. This way your stateroom credit will cover your entire bill...including tips, and you'll have some extra cash to take home. ;)

I called Celebrity and the nice lady at the call center that answered the phone was not sure if the cruiseline would put the money back on my Bosses card or if they would put the credit back on my personal card...The fact that there is three different sources of funds confused her a bit.

So I am still not sure...All I know is we will love our 11 day cruise!

We were told to come to guest relations the last day and they gave us what was left in cash. No 3% fee. In our case we only had $200 left so it was not too much to carry around.

Oops, that was a RCL cruise.

Co-mingled funds would be tricky to credit back to the originator. Was that bottle of wine from from the boss or from shareholder credit? Who gets the leftovers? If you get it back, it should logically go to the card you use to back your on board account, since the boss gave the credit to you and you also purchased some credit for yourself. Interesting situation, let us know the outcome.

Thats exactly what we and my boss are hoping to have happen. He and us would prefer any left overs went back on my personal card.

I can tell you what happen to me on RCI NOTS last week and I would think X would do the same. I had 875 in OBC had already prepaid for excursions etc.

When I checked in I did not need to give them a credit card due to my OBC.

Anyway the 2ND day of the cruise I wanted some gambling money so went to the pursers desk and asked for 200...they gave me the cash, I signed a receipt. The night before the cruise ended I cashed out my remaining money.......no problem.

The OBC was from Visa, Shareholder, NC and TA....I had put none of my own cash in....you certainly do not want it credited back to any card cause you might lose points and if it is cash you or someone else has put in how can they refuse to return it.

Nice gift I might add..............

I am sure that Celebrity will refund the balance, but why chance it. Go and have a blast!!!!! With $2200.00 to begin a cruise with I could think of a million things to do with that money and none of them include a credit back to the cc company or cash!!!!!!!! What ever happens have a wonderful time.

Did they charge you a 3% cash fee like they do in the casino?

Thanks for all the great replies!

No they did not......it would not make sense, I already prepaid 1000.+

for excursions, mystery dinner, Chops, tips...how can they charge me a service fee? ......the same goes for someone who has funded their ship board acct. with "cash" they should be able to draw the money at will.

I personally think if you have a cash account they should waive the

3% service fee in the Casino.

I am sure X will be fair with you...but if I were you I would do a cash account so they are forced to let you cash out.....they can't very well keep the money you do not spend.

On this recent cruise I checked cash account on my "boarding pass" and when we checked in they wanted no additonal cash.

ON the RCI threads many people have said if they have OBC left they are called by the purser on the last night to cash out...........I did not wait for a call I went down, they asked me if I wanted to keep a little on it for drinks that night and I said no.

Enjoy your cruise and that nice boss bonus.

Hi

We disembarked Summit just a few days ago. I just wanted to add that they did charge us a 3% service charge whenever we withdrew cash. We had pre-paid $1,500 for onboard spending and were told by Celebrity UK when we pre-paid that we would not be charged a fee to withdraw cash as it was our own pre-paid money. But when we tried to withdraw the first lot of cash in the casino we were advised there was a 3% charge. We spoke to front desk about it and they said that was right and there was nothing they could do about it. We asked if it would make a difference if the money was withdrawn from the front desk and they said the only way you could get cash onboard was the casino (apart from the ATM).
