Whats up with these fuel charges!!!!

Recommended Posts

Oil is trading right now at 59.66 a barrel on the NYSE, there should be no more fuel surcharges period!

That price is for oil delivered to refineries in December, not tomorrow, and it's for crude oil, not refined product.

2010....can I borrow the crystal ball that says oil prices will not be back at $145 a barrel?

I am not one of masses that thinks every American Corporation is EVIL. RCI si doing what they need to do to: A) survive B) return a profit for the stockholders C) secure current and future employment for their ranks.

If it drops below the magic $65.00 mark on Dec 10th, great. But when we booked, we KNEW what we were doing, NO ONE holds a gun to anyone's head and forces them to book a cruise.

Unless some folks are going to now call for a government bailout for cruise passengers because the evil corporation tricked you into going on a cruise.

18th, not 10th.

:)

they should have titled it "We might withdrawal your fuel charge" if we feel like it.

I would be they prebuy contracts of fuel from companies to get better pricing. So it is a guessing game. But dont try to tell your taking away the fee when its only a maybe.

Its the same with airlines. They started the baggage fee to supplement fuel charges and that the fuel is going down some of the airlines are now jumping on the fee band wagon.

We know these fees will not be rescended.

Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee Fee me to death

I haven't followed this all that closely past knowing the date to check oil prices to see if my fuel surcharge will be refunded - but what I recall of the announcement was not a cavalier "we might withdrawl your fuel charge if we feel like it" etc. They gave specific dates, where they are quoting the oil price from - I thought it was very explanatory on how they are coming up with whether to refund or not - everyone knows what to expect, and when. As for current prices, I'd venture a guess that as much oil as they use, it was already contracted for X price til end of the year before prices dropped.

Wow, two weeks in a row we are in complete agreement on something! :D

I don't recall what thread it was on but there were several people that have posted that they have cancelled and re-booked (one person said it took three minutes so I am assuming it was all done within the same phone call).

It was my thread....;)

And I still haven't cancelled and rebooked. I will sit back and take the credit. :) I'll call it my personal on board savings account...lol.

Now, with that being said, my Indy cruise in Feb still has fuel charges on it until at least Dec 18th. ;)

Us also. I am keeping my Oasis cruise as is. As a matter of fact while on the Solstice this month I may book another one. It is kind of hard to say which date two years from now is better for us. Who knows what may happen in two years, the fuel supplement could be back, and gone, and back, and gone

Why is the title wrong?, RCI has withdrawn the fuel surcharge, for 2010 cruises booked after November 10th. There's no maybe about it, it has happened, for cruises prior to the withdraw date, ie December 31st 2009 and before, the fuel surcharge still applies, however, if the price of oil drops below a certain price on a certain date, then they will refund that fuel surcharge as an OBC, this is a bonus to some cruises that fall within the dates that the fuel surcharge applies.

Pre buying oil is called hedging, it doesn't mean better pricing, it means that the price is locked in for a contracted period of time, if the price of oil goes up during the contracted period, then the buyer, RCI, wins. If the price goes down, then they loose. Also don't forget that oil prices quoted are futures, they are not the price that oil being delivered today is priced at, it is the price for oil delivered in the future, normally a month or more out.
