Hi Ocngypz !

Thank you for the information. I am happy to hear Celebrity listened to the many of us who asked for Celebrity to return to Bermuda. This is great news !

I'm guessing they will be doing longer sailing to the Caribbean with a stop over in Bermuda much in the same way the Caribbean Princess does.

It would be King's Wharf and likely from Bayonne

Hi Rick !

Thats what I am thinking also. I suspect they will do something like what Caribbean Princess does currently. I will be on Solstice tomorrow. I will see if I can find out more about this, but I suspect it's just too soon. If I hear more, I will post it on this thread.

Good point, Floris! I hope so too.

HAL is also returning to Bermuda in 2010 too, from NYC. I'm wondering if Veendam is small enough to be able to avoid King's Wharf, which is where Summit must surely be docking. At least we have a back-up.

Veendam is indeed small enough to bypass King's Wharf. HAL's press release says she will be running the old itinerary with overnights at both Hamilton and St. George's. However, she will only be doing a few sailings to Bermuda in 2010; the first full season is projected for 2011.

Might be worth waiting for.

No.... back to 7 night program.
This will be interesting to see. I know Bermuda is building a second dock at King's Wharf, but with all the other ships and line heading there, I can't see them staying there for 4 days. Summit won't fit at the other ports.

Only time will tell

This is what i was thinking. They are building a second pier at Kings Wharf (will be ready for the 2009 season), but i know at least for the 2009 season, NCL uses one of the docks all week long. The other dock is used by RCI (Grandeur/Explorer on alternating weeks) and when they are not there is when the day callers are. If the cruise season is the same way in 2010 there is simply no place for Summit to dock.

On a side note, there is some talk of on the RCI boards of them replacing the Explorer in 2010 out of Bayonne, maybe a longshot, but could this be the replacement?......

And if not, maybe RCI is just going to do away with the Bermuda runs and giv up the dock space for Celebrity.

There are alot of variables to take into account here.

I for one have never been on an M class ship, truth be told, the only Celebrity ship i have ever been on was the Zenith 2 years in a row. I really, really liked Celebrity, it was classy, without being overdone. Had a comfortable understated feel to it without being stuffy.

Would jump on this in a second, i hope its true.

Happy Cruising!

Depending on the stay in Bermuda - it will be the dockyard area.

They can't fit into Hamilton or St. George.

Also will this be a leg trip one day in Bermuda - not enough and Dockyard is too far away from most of everything. Then off to the Bahamas or ?????? for a day then back to Bayonne.

From what we were told NCL will have exclusive rights to the new pier being built at Kings Wharf. It appears all the other cruise lines will have to share space at the original pier. The reason all these cruise lines are rushing back to Bermuda is due to the fact that the ships casino's will be allowed to open up after 10:00 pm while in port starting in 2009. We have no interest in booking an over nighter in Bermuda such as Explorer and Grandeur now currently do. We only book cruises with an extended stay on the island.

Hi Everyone !

Just off Solstice today. Celebrity did confirm Summit to Bermuda in 2010, and as Ocngypz mentioned, it will be 7 night sailings (likely from Bayonne), though I did hear that not all of the details are complete yet.

I'm glad we know the basics. As I feel that Close to home sailings will be the big feature for Cruising in 2009 and 2010, I feel this is a very wise decision by Celebrity !

Will this be in the summer of 2010 or just the spring of 2010?

Hi Tromvest !

I didnt hear anything about dates. There was a flyer left in my cabin last night. As soon as I unpack, I will check to see if any dates were listed.

I went on the Amazara in Aug of 2007 and was sick the whole time. The ships doctor would not let me off the ship. Now I can go back again and maybe actually see the place.I do hope it goes out of Bayonne since I live in Bayonne. I could almost walk to the ship.

:)

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the info. Bob and I have wanted to return to Bermuda for quite sometime now. Just didn't want to sail from Boston or have to fly for a 5 nighter. We will take a chance with MSC Orchestra who is offering just one sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Bermuda in late April.

I wish that Celebrity would consider Bermuda as a place to sail from or possibly RCL. I think there is a definite market from Florida but they must have their reasons for not developing that.

I have mixed feelings about this.

We will be taking a cruise to Bermuda in June 2009 on NCL's Dawn.

During the three days our ship will be in Bermuda, it will be the only one at Kings Wharf, and there will be just one small ship in Hamilton during part of that time. We are really looking forward to our first cruise to this beautiful island, and feel that the lack of crowds from other cruise ships will make it even more enjoyable.

In 2010 a cruise to Bermuda will be a very different because of all the large ships that will be in Bermuda at the same time.

Granted it is nicer to have more options, but based on my experience a port with less ships is so much better.

When we cruised to St Martin and St Thomas during the middle seventies we were the only ship in port that day. As much as I loved St Thomas and St Martin during our cruise in the seventies, I now try to avoid them when choosing a Caribbean itinerary because they are too crowded.

In the summer of 2001 when we sailed Infinity to Alaska, there were never more than two ship in a port at the same time. That also made it possible for our ship to get very close to the Hubbard Glacier and stay there for hours. Now,I have no desire to go back to Alaska because it has too many ships at the same time.
