Giving up your Seapass Card at the end of your cruise

Take care not to lose your seapass card if you want to keep it as a souvenier because remember a lot of information is stored on that card. Credit card details etc. If if fell into the hands of someone who had a card reader who knows what info they will read. Look at the bar codes and black line on the back of the card. Deface them.

Also, remember to ALWAYS take with you any HOTEL keys. They also hold a lot of information. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave them in the room when you check out.

I agree; I have the same understanding. I would be really surprised if this wasn't the case.

Good find and I highly doubt it´s any different with the SeaPass cards.

There´s not even a reason to have such information on the card, as all purchases go to your onboard account anyway and are summed up to one final bill to charge against your credit card. It would be more of a hassle to have it to the credit card attached.

 

In addition, just think about it, those SeaPass cards are ready at check-in and they have nothing else than the last 4 digits of your credit card at that point and you could still change your credit card at that point, so how could your credit card information magically make on your SeaPass card?;)

 

I´ve lost my SeaPass card on one cruise and had to go to guest relations to get a new one. My onboard folio was closed and another one opened up. So if it were all related to credit card information all this would totally mess up then.

I was on the same cruise also(Mariner..12/07-12/14)

They took our cards,too.:( They said the system was down. I was disappointed , in 40+ cruises , I have kept all of my cards.

I was wondering why they would do this, but I guess if you can't scan your card to show your leaving the ship, then they need a way of making sure everyone is off. I wonder if you insisted in keeping it if they would have accomodated somehow. We still have all 3 of ours and the docs.

One thing I do know about that magnetic strip on SeaPass cards, don't let it get near a camera! We de-magnetized two cards that way and had to get new ones issued.

Same thing with a cell phone. We were on the Grandeur a couple of weeks ago. First day we used our sea passes for the door on our cabin and they worked fine. later in the day, my DW's wouldn't open the door so we went down to the pursers desk. They replaced it and asked if DW had a camera in the same pocket as her sea pass. She replied, "no but I do have a cell phone." The lady smiled and said, "you wouldn't believe how many times this happens.";)

We never had to. I wouldn't give them up. Too much fun having your first dinner in a restaurant onshore after a cruise and handing the waiter/waitress your SeaPass card. Most don't look at them and come back smiling telling me stories how often they were sliding the card just to be rejected every single time. It's tradition for us. :D

 

 

My DH always tried to pay the doctor with his Exxon card. :D

We were on the Marnier, getting off at a port. DH gave them a seapass, but it was an old one. They wouldn't give it back.

We were on that same sailing and they took our cards too. I told lady who was collecting them that I'm very disappointed that they are taking them back. She said that their system is down and they have to take them. :(

We were doing a back to back, and were able to pick up the kept cards at guest services after we returned to the ship for our second leg of our B2B (back to back). The ship was still having trouble checking the B2B people back onboard. The computer keep beeping them out, and wouldn't accept their new cards. Some had to go to guest services for a replacement.

One couple were Diamond plus, and when they had to get the replacement card, it did not say Diamond plus on them.

The B2B's were given a special cocktail party the night before, and then a special luncheon in the dining room on Sunday.

All in all, we will miss the Mariner, Capt Johnny, and all the crew....

Laugh all you like. What I said is you can never be too careful when it comes to these cards and it was one of the ships crew who gave me this information. So do what you like with them. I know I what I do.

Yeah thanks, I´ll keep laughing at such information, as it´s simply an urban legend and again shows proof about the knowledge of the crew.

 

As I said eaelier, they wouldn´t even be able to put this information on the card, as they don´t have it when producing the cards. :rolleyes:

That is just wrong information being passed off as fact. All you are doing to the hotels is adding to their cost which is passed on to all of us. All is on that hotel card is the card number and nothing else. When you put your card in the door is sends the number to the computer and verifies that number is allowed in that door at that time. This method allows programming, for example a maid is not allowed to access an occupied room at 3am because there is no need.

We sailed on the Mariner 12/7-14 and they took our cards when we were exiting the ship. That was the first time that has ever happened to us before. I was a little disappointed that they kept the cards I like to place them in our scrapbook....

 

We have on a couple of cruises where we were disembarking in a foreign country on Princess cruises.

Hmm, if they told me there was o other way off the ship, I might just suddenly lose the card. Wht are they gonna do, keep me onboard for the next sailing?

One thing they could do is escort you back to the pursers desk where you would have to show identification so that they could manually check you off the ship. You would of course have to wait in line with all the other people that suddenly lost their cards and then get back in line to get off the ship. Could be inconvenient if you had a tight flight schedule.:(

All the hotel keys I have used only had a combination to get into the room. Nothing more.:confused: Okay I see everyone else said the same! Good thing we are all on the same page!
