massfriends,

You educated me again! :) I didn't know the program was only 2 years old. That means that on my previous cruises it didn't exist yet - so that explains why I wasn't told by the staff. That said I have to say that the dealers have always been VERY nice on all the RC cruises I have been on. I have been treated to free drinks on occasion from the dealers and pit bosses based on my tipping and overall action (both of which were high compared to the average players around me), which I know is not the norm. So overall, I have been very happy with the Casino Royale. I may wait for RC to get the program in better order and consider taking advantage of it.

It doesn't matter.....you said you canceled because of the treatment you got from the player's club people..... If that's why, I just don't get why you would cancel what would be a fabulous cruise in the presidential suite on a beautiful ship.

And right....it's not any of my business but, you said it.....sorry if I am out of line with my question.

Again its about principal do as you say. I rejected several discounts for my next cruise because of principal not for money. I will not allow me or fellow cruisers get told one thing and then a different one later.

Just noticed your from Mass......:D You really should consider making out the form before you sail on the Serenade. It can't hurt.

Also, have you seen the repo. cruise out of Boston in Oct. on Jewel of the Sea's......Jewel has one of the best casino's and staff on the high sea's....JMO

I thought this board was about thier thoughts and, experiences but all the time I see people get dumped for the wrong doing of a company.

Have you considered the company is right(read web site min 50$ on BJ) and the casino person you talked to was mistaken. And again the casino club is not even known about on ships by the staff in casino working for the bar. RCL needs to train staff and support casino royale club and members. There seems to be a culture of the casino is not ours just the profits it makes.

massfriends,

Thanks for the pointer on signing up for the casino program before my March sailing. However, I have been out of work for a few months and this cruise will (sadly) be without spending time in the casino. That is just a sacrifice I have to make this particular cruise financially. I am lucky to be able to pull off this cruise. But it is much needed and deserved after the last year that I have had! :)

I belong to the "club" after being invited on freedom sailng last year. Once you are invited to join, they give you a blue card, which waives the 3% cash fee at the cashier window and allows you to drink free in the casino while you play. Also got cover charges waived at Chops a couple nights. Not great comps, but better than nothing!

As a member of the club, I can verify that showing your Blue member card waives the 3% fee for obtaining cash at the window, and allows you to drink free while in the casino. Also got a couple cover charges waived at Chops for nice dinners. Not great comps, but considering their limited ability to offer any comp benefits/perks to a cruiser while at sea on a ship, it was much better than nothing. Also, I get a chunk of a discount off my next sailing cost based on my play...just call a week after your back from the sailing you played on.

txcowboy10,

Thanks for that info. It is good to see that RC is at least trying, finally, to reward casino patrons. I will miss my nights in the Casino Royale this time :(

You're Welcome Captain! Now if I could just figure out to not make so large a contribution each sailing towards my cruise experience! I don't think the odds are good on any cruise ship compared to land casinos...but when in Rome...

What web site where does it say it? I have spoke to 3 diffrent people at the players club hot line and they could not point me to any posted rules. I do not cruise to gamble, but I enjoy to play a few hours a day. My point is no one knows the rules or they change at will.

My DH and I are both members of Club Royale and we play slots and most of the time we play penny and nickle slots but for a long time and usually at max. We were asked to join 2 years ago and last year received $850 off our cruise (between 2 of us) and this year we received $1,000 off our cruise 2/22/09 on Explorer - can't wait!! We have also been invited to go on many slot tournament cruises for port fees and taxes and have signed up for one in October - Boston - Maine - Canada. We receive all our drinks free in the casino (which is quite a savings in itself). Casino staff was a little unsure about the blue cards last year on Freedom but once the Casino Manager talked to them, they were super!! Hope that 3% is taken off on all ships (I read on CC it was only on certain ships and up to the CM) but we applied for a line of credit just in case.

This will be the 1st cruise we've been on since we got blue cards where you don't put your room key card in machine so I'm anxious to see what we get for comp for next cruise - we can take it as OBC or as comp off cost of cruise.

Hope this helps - you don't have to play $1 slots or even $5 slots no matter what it says in rules.;)

One thing I like about gambling on the ship is not having to worry about a players card -- I can sit and play $5 or $10 blackjack, 3-card or caribbean stud for 5 minutes or all night long and still get a free buffet!:)

nancronin, I am a bit confused, I have the blue casino royale card and I was not able to use it in place of my seapass card in the slot machine. Also only certain shis have card readers.

Sorry for confusion - I didn't mean I put the blue card in machine - I only meant this cruise (2/22) will be the first one where we can't use our room keys in the slots. ;)

That's some great discounts...I get around $350-450 off each of my cruises. My first cruise with my blue card will be on FOS in May, so we'll see how that works. Regarding your concern about playing on a ship with a card reader, I was on Monarch a couple months ago, and they just said to let the casino manager on duty know when I was in the casino playing and they would track my play on my machines internally...guess it worked...got $350 off my next cruise when i got home the following week. Hope it works that well for you too. Lastly, i concur with playing low...I play max on nickel machines and easily qualified at THEIR request...not mine.

Has anyone been invited and activated as a Club Royale member during a cruise - where you can use the benefits right away on the current cruise instead of waiting until the next one?

Well I was invited to join on FOS last year, gave me a couple really nice polo "high roller" shirts, drinks free the rest of the cruise and dinner in Chops (no cover charge to pay), but my OBC/next cruise credit wasn't available until about a week after the sailing and you have to call in to casino royale staff and inquire with a host about the size of the credit from your play that they will give you on your next sailing...can set up to take as OBC in the casino or off the price of the next sailing.

I kinda was!:D I was on a Back to Back on the Liberty in 2007. On my 1st leg I gambled, but wasn't approached ( didn't even know about the program, it was very new at that time). My 2nd leg, day 2 while playing in the Casino, I was approached by the Casino Host and asked if I would like to sign up! I was given an application to join, and from that day on, I was given free drinks and earned my discounts from that cruise.

My next cruise, I was awarded $1475.00 in cash that I collected at the Casino cage. I can honestly say, when you don't have a card monitor on the Ship you cruise on, I earn wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy less awards than on a card monitored ship. For example, on the Explorer ( which I will be cruising again on in 64 days), they DO NOT have the card monitor. You have to alert the cage each time you go to play and they somehow monitor your play that way!

I gamble just about the same on every cruise! Generally receive $700+ in awards for my next cruise! When I cruised on the Explorer in 2008, and requested my awards, the Royal Casino VIP Dept., claimed I wasn't even on that cruise! I asked how that could be possible when I collected my $950.00 in earned cash from the cage. I also signed many winning slips( close to 5K worth of them) for my payment for winning on slots! When they checked, they admitted I was there but no record of my playing!

They decided to give me $200.00 as earned cash for my next cruise! I wasn't going to argue, but I did ask them to review my prior awards earned on Ships that have card monitors!

I just came off the Jewel in Jan 2009 and my awards earned was $1050.00. They did have a card monitor on that Ship! Just giving you a warning on how it worked for me on Ships that you have to be manually monitored!:(

Good Luck!

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, we're back from Explorer and are not happy with the comps earned - like you pmshirl - we earned way less without a card in than we had on our last 2 cruises - after 7 days (2 at sea) the casino manager and the slots manager came up to us to let us know that I had earned $175 and that my DH was in the negative for about $25 - how can you be in the negative we asked. Well the FREE DRINKS are not free at all - they are taken off your credits!! We had both been drinking and playing the same as all of our other cruises and I actually was really upset. My DH (who I knew was steaming) said "well if that's the way you see it what can we say?"

The 1st night on the cruise I had asked the slots manager - Tony - if tips were included with the drinks and he told me that were NOT. So we tipped our waiter staff for every drink.

Two days later we requested a meeting - after not gambling one penny or even going in casino - and met with them both again. Terry Connor (casino manager) told us that obviously the previous cruises had not been keeping track of our drinks - I asked how we could be charged for free drinks - we are used to land casinos and free drinks are just that - he tried to say that Harrah's (where we are both diamond members for over 10 years) tracked drinks also. I asked how they could do that when we move all over the place and no one asks for your card when you order a drink - he then realized they can't track your drinks but said their program was based on Harrah's Total Reward program.

Last night (of cruise) we went in and decided to play for awhile - used my blue card and got a free drink (figured what the heck) - when I requested a 2nd drink was told that I had to use my seapass which pissed me off no end. My DH went to Casino Manager and he said that he told staff all of our drinks were to be free and wasn't sure what had happened. They credited our account for the drinks we had been charged but I am not happy with this program and do not want any part of it!

I am going to write to Club Royale and see what happens but doubt if it will make a difference - we told them we were there when we came in but I was playing penny, 2 penny, quarters, and dollars and no one was following me around - they also seemed to have the poorest paying machines I have seen in a long time but maybe that was just our luck. They also had the amount of hours wrong but how do you argue that - they said they had no intention of upsetting us and no one had ever had a problem with their points before us - but truth is that did upset us and we spent several nights drinking in Schooner while our friends played.

And the kicker was that they were charging us for tips also - full price of drinks plus tip but supposedly the waiter did not get the tips!

Anyway, we got home Friday afternoon - unpacked - did laundry - woke up Saturday with terrible stomach ache and ended up having emergency appendectomy late Saturday night - am now back home and so happy that my appendix waited until I got home to act up - lol.
