What special dishes have you asked to be prepared in the main dining room?

Well, since it was pulled from the menu...

On the 1st day of every cruise I always ask if its possible for them if they can make me at some point during the cruise.....

 

Lobster Thermidor.

When I 1st started cruising 30 years ago as a child..

that was THE MOST exotic dish and presentation I had every seen...

after for 25 years I enjoyed it every cruise and then they yanked it off the menu..:eek::mad:

I always request bernaise sauce with red meats. Sometimes it is offered on the menu but not often. Usually, after my first request, it is no longer necessary to request it as it appears as if by magic. Creme Brulee is another item I have requested from time to time. Most of the time the request is honored. Bon Voyage!

For those who need translation, Mohr im Hemd is a Hazlenut chocolate pudding.

 

Pia, thank you for the translation. I was one of those who did need it. It sounds dreamy and I will have to get it the next time I cruise!

On our Hawaiian cruise our tablemates ordered sauteed spinach to be served at dinner every night. At first I thought it was an odd request, but it was delicious, and we had some almost every night.

 

The request for bernaise is a great idea; my DH loves it.

My sister and BIL have asked for short ribs; we've asked for chef's or cobb salad several times, which are great. When you're on a long cruise, you get tired of the big meals and heavy entrees so that soup and a good salad are a welcome change. Oh, and one evening, we saw the table next to us get coconut shrimp as an appetizer. We asked for them for the next night and they were incredible.

Yummmm...I love spinach. Last year on our cruise, I would ask for a plate of veggies every night. They would bring me broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower...yuck. I asked him if he could just bring me a plate of spinach, he looked at me like I had 3 heads. He even asked my husband if I was joking.

 

We had an east indian couple that we shared a table with on another occasion. They ordered EI dishes twice during the course of the cruise. We had more food than we knew what to do with, and it was fantastic. Many, many EI cooks aboard. We had to share with others around us, so as not to waste it.

Oh yeah, same cruise we ordered clams casino. Never had them, but some other friends we met had a large table. The head waiter asked if they wanted something special...just to be smart, someone blurted out "clams casino." LOL! I'll be danged if the next night I didn't get to try clams casino...they were excellent.

I once asked for honey mustard salad dressing, and they made up a batch specially for me. Last cruise, DH asked for a "volcano" which is a banana split thing that isn't on the menu but that I'd read here was available if reuqested. Both these items were cheerfully provided and very tasty!

DH loves those things too, although I think it might be on the children's menu. A kid ordered it at our table for dessert after lunch several cruises ago, and my husband thought he had hit paydirt when he saw it come out.

 

We've never asked for special items, but have been the recipient of the requests of tablemates (i.e. filet mignons every night on RC, a plateful of different temperatures, I bet that got a GOOD tip!; the mohr im hemd on Celebrity). Usually we just ask for broccoli (my favorite) every evening, and mixed berries for dessert, and both of these items, while not on the menu, are made up and ready to go.

On a RCL in the Med.a couple of yeara ago there was a family from India seated next to us that had special indian dishes each and every night for 2 weeks.We always were looking until out waiter asked if we would like to try what they were having,we did a couple of nights and it was great for a change...some king of mushy beans,meat dishes and flat breads.:eek:

The Volcano is always on the menu. You just need the right menu. :D

I've requested and received blueberries with mascarpone for dessert. Have also specially requested the lamb and received it (this had to be requested ahead of time - the berries were available immediately).

 

Oh - I've also requested hardboiled eggs in the Horizon Court and received them. now I have to admit, this request was submitted to a headwaiter acting as buffet supervisor who we know very well - he may have "made it happen."

I haven't done it yet but would like to have the Chef or Sous Chef prepare Steak Tartare one night as my main course.

We were served steak tartare as an appetizer for the Chef's Table last year on th Emerald. It was served in small pastry cones. Yum!

Delicious Crab Cakes!!!!

 

We recently just got off a back 2 back. When at home my BILs favorite snack is a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich.

 

After a week without his snack the Head Waiter deliver to dinner one night a whole bowl of peanut butter and a whole bowl of jelly.

 

What great service!!
