Morcruisin4Fun Posted March 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Does anyone get up extra early to watch the sunrise? We sail on the Valor in April and I am making my family get up early the first sea day to watch the sunrise. We are always watching the sunset but thought it would be nice to have a quiet moment on deck and watch the sunrise from a deck chair (that we will occupy for the whole day) Is it worth it? aggiecruiser05 Posted March 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2009 i'm planning on getting up early to watch the sunrise on our cruise in April... i think it'll be worth it to just enjoy some peace & quiet on the ship, plus i love taking pictures so it's another photo op for me :)
MrPete Posted March 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I inherantly wake up at 5ish every morning. I love getting out for that first cup 'o java, the stroll about the empty ship, and finally watching the glow on the horizon, sometimes decorated with assorted Jacob's Ladders, finally seeing Mr. Sol pushing up out of the sea. Frank12 Posted March 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Once in a while, but usually we're up too late to get up in time to see the sunrise! Damn casino!!!
Aplmac Posted March 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Does anyone get up extra early to watch the sunrise? ===> Yes!We are always watching the sunset but thought it would be nice to have a quiet moment on deck and watch the sunrise from a deck chair Is it worth it? ===> If you're a photographer, yes! It's all OCD I know, but I get up early to catch the unusual lighting situations.. ;) Try waking up to this, just off St.Thomas! Then up on top deck for this... Elevators? You won't catch 0630hrs. sidelight shafting into the elevator area on Deck 10 ..at any other time!! .
Morcruisin4Fun Posted March 6, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Do they let you know in the Capers what time the sunrises? Just wondering what time we will have to wake up. We cruise Western side. Can't wait......
G'ma Posted March 6, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I love the early morning hours onboard....it's quiet, peaceful. I walk everyday and the early hours are perfect for this..watching the sun come up is a bonus. Then a nice cup of coffee at the railing watching the day come alive is great. Morcruisin4Fun Posted March 6, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Alpmac, I just love the first picture. I just made it as the wallpaper on my computer. Now I have something to look at while I wait for my cruise.
A&Jfamily Posted March 6, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Does anyone get up extra early to watch the sunrise? We are always watching the sunset but thought it would be nice to have a quiet moment on deck and watch the sunrise from a deck chair (that we will occupy for the whole day) Is it worth it? Yep! Sleep with the windows open watch the sunrise from our balcony most mornings. But then again, we are morning people. And yes, it is worth it. We particularly enjoy it in Belize watching the ship make all those zig zag turns to come through the reef.

Can't wait...... Yes they do and IMHO WELLLLLLL worth the effort..nothing as calming as standing on deck, coffee in hand and just breathing in the salt air and watching the sun rise...awesome... Cigar Dude Posted March 6, 2009 #12 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I don't intentionally get up early while on a cruise but there are some mornings we just happen to get moving early. Here is one such morning while on Glory last September:
Billfrompa Posted March 6, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 6, 2009 On our last cruise, I took video of the sunrise off the coast of Belize. I began when the sun first broke the horizon and followed until fully above. It was only a few minutes, but wow--- what a sight! I never realized or maybe never appreciated how wonderfully beautiful a sunrise can be; especially over water. You can watch the video, but it doesn't nearly do it justice. It's amazing how, as you grow older, some of the simple little things in lfe bring so much enjoyment!:) Have fun!! Bill.
runner15km Posted March 6, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Best part of the day for me, I try to catch 3-4 early mornings day breaks.
LambKnuckles Posted March 6, 2009 #15 Share Posted March 6, 2009 ALWAYS!!! It's my time... while it's dark to sing and smile and think and be with my family who are no longer with me... My memory time... When the sun rises... I see the glory of the new dawn and the promise of a new day!!! I love mornings... like opening a package, a gift, a new adventure!!! And the whole thing is wrapped beautifully in oranges and reds and pinks and whites and yellows and on and on!!! One morning, heading into Cozumel, I had a sunrise to the east and a rainbow over the funnel to the west... What a splendid day that was!!!! :)
Aplmac Posted March 6, 2009 #16 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Alpmac, I just love the first picture. I just made it as the wallpaper on my computer. ===> Good for you! Now I have something to look at while I wait for my cruise. Here's your favorite funnel!! A glimpse of Roseau DOMINICA at about 0640 hrs. as we approach St.Kitts at OMG30 hrs. -- Nevis in the far distance, peak in the clouds.. Sunrise behind NEVIS! . jamers22 Posted March 6, 2009 #17 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I'm not really a morning person, except on vacations. I get up early most mornings and watch the sunrise. And I always bring my camera. My family would rather sleep, so it's kinda my time to relax and get ready for another great day on a cruise! kjunea Posted March 6, 2009 #18 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I am an early riser, my DH not so. I get up early, walk around, get an early cup of tea, then after the buffet is open, bring down breakfast to him on the balcony. I love the quiet of early morning on the ship. Great for indoor picture taking too!

Aplmac Posted March 6, 2009 #20 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Going in to Dominica can be borderline spooky sometimes! :D What the heck's out there? ..wonders this poor guy! Yeaah.. admittedly some of this is between 0630 and 0715 hrs. but you get the point.. Don't lose all your money (and early morning opportunities) in the Casino, staying up late. You're coming off the ship with less cash than you went on with. That's the inescapable Order of The Universe - the way God made it to happen. Okay? :D . Nunu Posted March 6, 2009 #23 Share Posted March 6, 2009 I wouldn't "make" anyone get up in order to view the sunrise if they didn't want to. Most younger kids wouldn't have an appreciation for it. I love it myself.
tropical-lovers Posted March 6, 2009 #24 Share Posted March 6, 2009 WOW!!! This alone says it is definitely worth it - though I will admit they are not all like this. We, too, are early risers and watched every sunrise and tried for most sunsets on our cruise! There is nothing like the peace and serenity of the morning sunrise on a ship with a huge cup of coffee!!
